Weekend Reads is a Goodreads group created by Nici, a booktuber over at LitPixie. Basically book lovers can record a video or write a blog post about what they plan to read on the weekend, and also answer a fun question.
The question for this weekend is:
If you could be any character in a book, who would you be? Why?
Hmm…I’d have to go with either Alanna from Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness quartet or Luna Lovegood from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
The Song of the Lioness quartet is a YA fantasy novel set in a medieval world. It follows Alanna as she trains to become a lady-knight (she hides her gender at first) and the difficulties she encounters from being a woman in a “man’s” world and from simply growing into a young woman. I admire Alanna’s bravery and tenacity, and I could easily identify with her because while growing up I hated being limited because of my gender. I like that Alanna pushes the boundaries of her world and succeeds.
Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter series. I think of all the characters I can identify with her the most because she’s so random and spacey and I get like that sometimes. Though her mind seems to constantly drift off on a tangent, she is clear-sighted and honest and thus sees what most refuse to acknowledge.
[Reviews of both series can be found here.]
What I’m reading this weekend?
Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. I’ve started it twice since deciding to read it. My plan was to read it on my Ipad but the translation of the e-book version I downloaded was boring; plus, I noticed that there were a few mistakes so I wondered if the e-book version matched the printed version. I compared the two at the bookstore, found the Barnes & Noble translation way more appealing, bought it, and that’s what I’m reading this weekend. So far, I enjoy the story. The narrator is a bit sarcastic so the telling is funny.

Happy reading!
I’m so glad you did this! I think both of the characters you picked sound interesting! (I haven’t gotten far enough in the HP series to meet Luna yet!) I’ve also never read Journey to the Center of the Earth, but I’m glad you’ve found a translation that works for you! Happy reading!

Aww, thanks for stopping by! I envy you since you haven’t read the entire series yet. I’d love to read it again for the first time. Yes, I’m so happy to have found a good translation because I was considering to stop reading.
