Weekend Reads #5: My brain has to be awake for this one

Weekend Reads is a Goodreads group created by Nici, a booktuber over at LitPixie. Basically book lovers can record a video or write a blog post about what they plan to read on the weekend, and also answer a fun question.

I’m not sure if I’ll continue with this meme in June since there hasn’t been any activity in the Goodreads group, but I enjoyed writing up these posts so I might put my own spin on it continue with the posts if Nici doesn’t update the meme prompts for June. Anyways, onward with this post.

The question for this weekend is:

Tell us one fun fact about you.

Hmm…one fun fact…this is difficult. Well, I am going skydiving this weekend! I can’t wait. I should be scared or anxious it but I’m not. I don’t know what to expect but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve always wanted to jump off or out of something high up so this is the safest way to do it.

What I’m reading this weekend?

A Long Day's Evening

I’m still on Bilge Karasu’s A Long Day’s Evening, which is no longer boring. I’ve completed the first story, The Island, which I enjoyed and am currently on the second, The Hill. It is slow reading. It’s not one I can fly through since this story is deeply contemplative and the characters pose questions about their faith that I’ve sometimes wondered about mine. As such, I need to be fully awake when I read this, which makes my progress even slower since I can only read it in the morning and at lunchtime, when my brain is fresh and perky and ready to work. Though I knew I would enjoy this story if I gave it a chance, I’m still surprised that I like it as much as I do.

Update: I typed this all up on Thursday night but was too sleepy to make final edits before posting. Now I’m too lazy to retype the former paragraph so here’s an update: I’m not sure what I’ll be reading since I gave up on A Long Day’s Evening when I attempted to read it after work. I kept falling asleep. Lost my patience. Gave up.

So, what are you reading this weekend?

Happy reading!

  1. Karasu sure looks like heavy stuff, I’m all for philosophy as long as it’s written in an engaging way :-B
Go you!!! I think jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane just crazy, crazy 😛
But if you want to see the MOST happiest to be aliveyist people, a skydivers landing pad is the place to be 😉
Ps, wear something very warm under your jumpsuit, i here it’s freezing hurtling towards the ground.

    1. No need. I’ll probably lose my nerve tomorrow when I’m in the plane facing the reality of what I’m about to do.
You just need to find a friend willing to do it. That’s why I’m able to. Otherwise I’d talk about it but not go through with it.
