Top Ten Tuesday #8: Fellow Book Nerds

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic:

Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds (love reading, are writers, work at a bookstore, etc.)

I've always liked this cover best.
Game of Thrones

Tyrion from The Song of Ice & Fire series by George R.R. Martin

— an obvious choice. He’s one of my favorite literary book nerds.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban4
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Hermione from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

— another obvious one. Hermione is one of my favorite characters in the series and one of the reasons why she is is because her nose is always in a book.

Bloomsbury's September 2014 cover by Jonny Duddle.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Madam Pince, the librarian, from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

— She takes her job seriously.

You
You

Joe from the You series by Caroline Kepnes

— Spoiler so blink and jump to the next one if you like: This dude forces his captives to read and then gives them an exam on the book(s). That’s the height of book nerdiness.

Journey to the Center of the Earth
Journey to the Center of the Earth

The eccentric Prof. Lidenbrock from Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne

— if you’ve read the book, then this isn’t surprising. Otto Lidenbrock is an intelligent man, a total bibliophile, and a polyglot.

The Kite Runner cover
The Kite Runner

Amir from The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

— Amir loves to read and would often read to his friend and servant, Hassan.

Rachel Hartman - Seraphina
Seraphina

Uncle Orma from the Seraphina series by Rachel Hartman

— Orma is a dragon who hoards books.

The Great Hunt
The Great Hunt

The entire Brown Ajah of the Wheel of Time series, but more specifically Verin Mathwin

— Verin, as well as other members of the Brown Ajah, can be easily identified by the ink stains on her nose or chin.

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

Oscar from The Brief and Wondorous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz

— another obvious choice if you’ve read the book.

Alanna: The First Adventure
Alanna: The First Adventure

Myles from the Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce

— a bibliophile and a bit of an introvert. Myles loves poring over maps.

These are all the characters I could think of. If you know of any others, drop a line below. 🙂

  1. The Brown Ajah is an excellent choice! It’s been so long since I read ‘The Wheel of Time’ books that I had completely forgotten about them, I should probably try and finish the series now that it’s (finally) complete. Thanks for the link to my TTT 🙂

“for me, restricted then to the compound, the chief attraction of the city was the random selection of books that ayub brought to me. Every few days he appeared at my door, grinning hopefully and handing the bundle of books to me as if they were treasures from an archaeological dig. ”

    Sorta fits the topic 🙂

  3. Yay for Hermoine and Tyrion! 🙂 I didn’t make a TTT list, but two other bookworm characters I can think of off the top of my head are Liesel Meminger of Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief and George of Neil Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
