Your Future Book Tag

Here’s an interesting book tag. I was tagged by Trey at Trey Schnarr Books back in August to do this one. I’m just getting to it now but better late than never, eh? The tag was originally created by BookGeekMovieFreak, a booktuber. Like Trey said, it’s tricky to explain so read along and you’ll get it.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Open book 1 to a random page. Look at the first word on the page. If it’s less than 5 letters, you will go to college. If it’s more than 5 letters, you won’t go to college.

Since I’ve already graduated from college, I’m going to change this to grad school, which I’d like to go to. The book I got was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I opened to page 448, which is in the “Rita Skeeter’s Scoop” chapter, and the first word is “He” so I will go to grad school. Hurray! 😀

“Juniper Berry: A Tale of Terror and Temptation” by M.P. Kozlowsky, illus. by Erwin Madrid

Juniper BerryHere’s another book I read for the Bout of Books 14 readathon. Since it was a week-long readathon, I threw this one into the mix because it’s short.

Quick summary:

Juniper Berry and her friend, Giles, are worried about their parents. Their parents changed since acquiring their desires and became cruel and disinterested in their kids. They only care about their careers. Curious about what has happened to their parents, the kids investigate the woods behind their house, where they often see their parents disappear into, for answers.

My thoughts: (minor spoilers)

“The house was a mansion, the lake was a pool, Kitty was a dog, and Juniper Berry was an eleven-year-old girl.”

So starts this middle-grade novel about resisting powerful temptations. I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading. I bought this book because I liked the cover and the title. The first sentence, above, drew me in and I felt so sorry for Juniper that I had to keep reading to see what becomes of her and her parents. The more I read, the weirder the story became, which increased my interest.

Comics Roundup #4: A Blast Into the Past

I read four graphic novels when I participated in Bout of Books 14. To read my thoughts on the first two comics I read, click here. What follows are my thoughts on Rat Queens and Saga. I’m so hooked on these series, that I had to include the second volume of both when choosing books for the readathon. My thoughts in this post will be short since it’s on the second volumes and I don’t want to give away too much. (Plus, I don’t have much to say other than they’re both great comics. Go read them!)

Book Haul #11: F**k that Book-Buying Ban

I am supposed to be on a book-buying ban but I’ve changed my mind. I think I’ll stop doing them for a few months and just monitor my spending wisely and be more rational when it comes to books.

The following are books I acquired before and after my very short book-buying ban.

Comics Roundup #3: An Epic Fantasy and A Fable

Back in August, I participated in the Bout of Books 14 read-a-thon. To make it bearable and to make sure that I would complete something, I threw a couple graphic novels into the mix. Saga, Vol. 2 and Rat Queens, Vol. 2 were a given since I read the first volumes of both and enjoyed them immensely. I also included the New Spring graphic novel because I’ve wanted to try one of the Wheel of Time graphic novel adaptations for some time now, and I selected The Battle of Blood and Ink to round it all out. Nothing special compelled me to read this one. I saw it in a Book Outlet sale and thought the premise sounded interesting so I bought it.

I’ll break up these graphic novel reviews and do two per post.
