Weekend Reads is a weekly discussion on a variety of topics. At the end of the post, I’ll include what I plan to read on the weekend.
This weekend’s question/topic:
I think it’s time for a new theme.
Though I am a curious person and enjoy visiting new places, I don’t like change. If I find something I’m comfortable with, I’d rather not alter it or get something new even if I’m somewhat tired of that thing or have outgrown it. However, change has been on my mind recently as I consider different facets of my life and this blog.
Last year, I changed my blog address, which was major for me because I wasn’t sure how it would work. Would the switch go smoothly or would I lose something by making the change? It’s that fear of losing something in the process of change that often stops me from going through with something new. You can’t change without giving up something in the process, but it’s hard to determine what the repercussions will be beforehand. It’s such a gamble.
But you can’t get better without making changes and I would like to make my blog better, which is why I’m trying to convince myself to make some changes. I love the layout it has now, but there are some minor things that I would like to tweak and I think the only way I can do that is by changing the theme. However, I would lose some of the features in this theme that I like. Ugh! What to do? For now, I’ll play around with themes.
So far, I’ve found one theme I like. It’s called Lovecraft and it’s similar to this theme, but its font is larger and the design cleaner. It’s wide and makes me think I’m looking at something huge and breathtaking, but I think it’s the picture of the snowy mountains that causes that effect on me. If I do decide to switch, it’s highly likely that I’ll go with Lovecraft. The more I look at it, the more I want it.
What I’m reading this weekend:
It’s a 3-day weekend for some of us in the United States because Monday is President’s Day. I don’t care much for the holiday, but I’m glad my job gives us the day. I plan to spend it in a bookstore.
I finished The Night Circus late Friday, but other than that, I haven’t read anything. I spent yesterday cataloging my bookshelf because that’s what a dutiful book nerd does when it’s too cold to go outside. But I plan to read some of The Dream Thieves and The Second Summer of the Sisterhood sometime today or tomorrow.
I think Lovecraft is a lovely choice for a new theme. Like you said, its layout is similar to what you have now, but it’s also cleaner. The final decision is up to you, though. 😉
Yay for finishing The Night Circus! I know you were nervous about how the plot events would affect the circus. Did you find the rest of the story to your satisfaction?

Yea, I’m debating it.
Oh yes! The Night Circus wrapped up well. Actually, after a certain point, I expected that it would end the way it did. I wasn’t ready to leave the story though. I wish there was more.

Ahh I know what you mean- change is hard! I’ve never read the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants books- are they good?

The first one was fun. It touched on a bunch of issues and I hope it goes deeper in the second book.

Happy reading, and have a great Sunday!
I am reading Helen Oyeyemi’s ‘The Opposite House’. I am slightly struggling with it, but I might pick up soon, I suppose. 🙂
