Exploring My Bookshelves is a weekly meme created by Victoria at Addlepates and Book Nerds and co-hosted with Shannon at For the Love of Words. Visit either blog for the list of topics.
This week’s topic:
A historical novel (in honor of President’s Day in the U.S.)
I chose to feature these novels I own by Philippa Gregory because The Other Boleyn Girl has been on my mind recently. I read it because I enjoyed the movie but after reading it, I no longer liked the movie. The book is definetly better. I read it in a frenzy and thought I was going half mad while reading it because I couldn’t bear to tear my eyes away from its pages. I wonder if the experience will be the same when I reread it.
Because I so enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl, I decided to read The Boleyn Inheritance. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it as enchanting and did not finish it. I’ll give it another go one of these days.
What historical novel have you recently read and enjoyed?
How this meme works:
- Take a “shelfie” (a picture of your bookshelf). Preferably literal, but e-shelves work too.
- Write something on the day’s prompt.
- Give the blurb and the cover of the book (and what you thought of it if you’ve read it).
- Link back to Victoria’s post.

The Other Boleyn Girl is one of my favorite books! I’ve read it too many times to count. Absolutely love it. The movie was a huge disappointment though.

Great post! I’ve always wanted to read the Other Boleyn Girl after seeing the movie. But I was put off after I read 3 phillippa gregory books that I’m not crazy about

Well, it was a great read when I first read. Take a dip in it, you might enjoy it. Maybe rent it from the library in case you end up hating it.
