It was my birthday a few weeks ago! 😀
To celebrate, I spent my birthday relaxing and doing nothing except rolling around and around in my warm, soft bed until noon or 2 pm or whatever. I just went with the day and spent it how I wanted to — relaxed. Once up, I glided to the book store — yes, glided because I daydreamed the whole way — and afterwards treated myself to a burger because I craved one that whole week. Then I sat outside for a bit, enjoyed the fairly nice weather, and watched the sun set and planes fly by. It was a relaxed, peaceful day. A good birthday.
So here are all the books I acquired for my birthday. Some I bought, some were gifted, some are giveaways, and some are ARCs. I’ll indicate which fit the last two.
The Books
The School for Good and Evil series box-set, which includes books 1 & 2:
The School for Good and Evil
A World Without Princes
— The series is by Soman Chainani. Since I am interested in reading this series and I previously received the third book for free, I thought it best to gift myself this box-set.
Color Me Crazy by Peter Deligdisch, aka Peter Draws
— Now I have all his books. I love his artwork.
Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes
Easy Guide to Grammar
— I’m looking forward to that sequel to You and I grabbed the grammar book because it’s $5.98.
From Book Outlet
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughty
The Rise by Sarah Lewis
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith, aka JK Rowling
The Chaos by Nalo Hopkinson
The Templeton Twins Make a Scene by Ellis Weiner, illus. by Jeremy Holmes
Coloring Dragons illus. by John Howe
ARC
I Almost Forgot About You by Terry McMillan
— I received this ARC from Crown. The novel is slated to be published in June.
Giveaway win
Enchanted Air: Two Cultures, Two Wings by Margarita Engle
— I won this in a giveaway hosted by Vamos a Leer. I wasn’t even aware that I had entered. Their giveaways are hosted monthly and to enter, all you have to do is comment on one of their posts during the month that the giveaway is for. Here is a review of Enchanted Air on the Vamos a Leer blog.
The Mangas
Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 1-3
Fullmetal Alchemist, Vol. 4-6
— both of these mangas are by Hiromu Arakawa. I was curious about mangas so I picked these up and now I’m hooked on the format. I enjoyed the anime of this series and though I know everything, I’m still excited to read these.
One-Punch Man, Vol. 1 by One, illus. by Yusuke Murata
Soul Eater, Vol. 1 by Atsushi Ohkubo
The Comics
Saga, Vol. 4 by Brian K. Vaughan, illus. Fiona Staples
Wytches, Vol. 1 by Scott Snyder, illus. by Jock,
Wayward, Vol. 1 by Jim Zub, illus. by Steven Cummings, John Rauch, and Tamra Bonvillain
Monstress, #1 by Marjorie Liu, illus. by Sana Takeda
Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant by Tony Cliff
— supporting my growing interest in comics.
The Magazines
Scientific American Mind special issue on The Sexual Brain
New Philosopher: Technology and Your Brain
— I shouldn’t have bought magazines because I own some unread ones, but I couldn’t pass up these topics.
Happy belated birthday.Seems like you enjoyed your day:-)Great book collection.Hope you enjoy all of them.Happy reading.
