Did you see this coming? I didn’t.
Here I am with another book haul with some library books thrown in. What’s to blame for the books bought? Coupons. And beautiful book covers.
Let’s get to it!
Books bought
Rasputin: A Short Life by Frances Welch
— I mentioned this book in my last Wishes for My TBR Pile post so when I saw it on Book Outlet for a ridiculously low price, I had to get it.
Rasputin’s Daughter by Robert Alexander
— I read this book when I was in high school and loved it and have been searching for it ever since. I found it on Book Outlet too. I was so happy that day. Two Rasputin books? Whaaaatt!!!
We Need New Names by Noviolet Bulawayo
— There are several cover designs for this book but I like this one the most so I was glad when I saw it on Book Outlet. 😛
Emperor of the Eight Islands and Autumn Princess, Dragon Child (books 1 and 2 of The Tale of Shikanoko series) by Lian Hearn
— This was purely a cover buy. Since its publication, I’d always see a stack of Emperor of the Eight Islands on a table in the fantasy section whenever I visit Barnes & Noble and the beautiful cover would tempt me to buy it. So I gave in. I also mentioned this series in my last Wishes for My TBR Pile post. It’s a fantasy series set in medieval Japan.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, J.K. Rowling
— At first, I wasn’t going to get this. It’s a play (I don’t like reading plays) and Rowling didn’t write it. Plus I’m tired of people and Rowling playing around with the series. Gosh, just continue the series and stop teasing! Anyways, curiosity got the better of me and so I now own this book.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
— I was having a crappy day and came home to see this on my doorstep. It made my day better. Shout out to Flatiron Books for sending this ARC! I think I won it in a giveaway but I can’t recall which. I’ve heard great things about this book but the comments that made me interested in it are the ones that compare it to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, which I read earlier this year and loved. Caraval will be out in January.
Books borrowed
Thunder & Lightning: Weather Past, Present, Future by Lauren Redniss
— I’ve been curious about this book since October, when it was published. It’s a nonfiction graphic novel about the weather.
The Life of Elves by Muriel Barbery
— Another book I’ve wanted to read since hearing of it. Europa, the publisher, was at BookCon in Chicago but by the time I got to their booth, they’d ran out of Barbery’s book. I can’t wait to start on it.
This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki, illus. by Jillian Tamaki
— A young-adult graphic novel that has a lot of buzz on booktube. I’m curious.
When Hitler Took Cocaine and Lenin Lost His Brain: History’s Unknown Chapters by Giles Milton
— I get the impression that this nonfiction book will be funny. I picked it up because of its title.
❤ Love the aesthetic here

I’ve been very interested in Caraval myself, I hope it works out well for you. I’m excited to start seeing some reviews for it pop up

LOL, I just drafted my Stacking the Shelves for this weekend which will feature Caraval as well, and I’m having major deja vu reading your post. I received the book this week too, and I wrote that it came with a note in the package saying that I won it in a giveaway, but I can’t for the life of me remember entering one.

Lol! I wondered if it was Goodreads but usually I would get an email about it first so maybe we entered a random giveaway and forgot.

Great haul. Emperor of the Eight Islands and Autumn Princess, Dragon Child and Rasputin have extremely gorgeous covers. And just like you the curiosity got better of me and I bought The Cursed Child

Thanks! Yea, I love looking at them. The Rasputin one reminds me of the Puffin Chalk classics covers.
