Valentine’s Day Book Tag

I’m pretty proud of myself for doing this tag and posting it ON TIME for the event it’s for. I was tagged by Heather, the Sassy Book Geek, (thanks for tagging me!!) and the tag was created by CC’s Books.

A stand-alone book you love:

In Search of Lost Dragons

In Search of Lost Dragons by Élian Black’Mor (illus.) and Carine-M (illus.)

There are many stand-alone books I love but I chose In Search of Lost Dragons because it’s been a while since I’ve mentioned it. It’s an illustrated book packaged to look like the travel journal our protagonist carries as he documents the existence of dragons in Europe. If you love dragons and great illustrations, I highly suggest you check out the book. The illustrations are beautiful and I love all the little notes and maps in it.

A dystopian book you love:

Station Eleven

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

I almost chose The Hunger Games. I enjoyed reading Suzanne Collins’s book, but I liked Station Eleven more. My favorite thing about Station Eleven is how magical it makes our current time seem because of the ease of technology. It’s another good book to read.

A book you love but no one else talks about:

The Lost Years of Merlin

The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron

I hardly ever hear anyone talk about T.A. Barron’s Merlin series and it’s such a good story about Merlin’s formative years. I think I read it around the same time that I discovered Tamora Pierce, Robin McKinley, and Harry Potter. It’s an entertaining read and I loved it at the time because I was curious about Merlin. I think I read T.H. White’s Once and Future King books right before picking up Barron’s series.

Your favorite book couple:

Saga1

Saga, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan, illus. by Fiona Staples

I almost mentioned The Night Circus, but I think I talk about it too much on here already. I instead went with Marko and Alana from Saga because I love how supportive there are of each other in the few volumes I’ve read thus far, and that they are badasses. By the way, Saga is such an entertaining comic book series. I highly recommend it. Marko and Alana are on the run from their governments, which are at war against each other. The artwork is great and crazy.

A book that other people love but you haven’t gotten around to reading:

captive-prince

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat

Ooohh!! I so want to read this! I’ve heard such good and bad things about it that I’m curious to see what I think.

A book with Red on the cover:

Beloved

Beloved by Toni Morrison

Quite a haunting read about slavery and the effects of slavery. It was unsettling and both angered and scared me (it creeped me out, probably cause I watched the movie first), but it’s a great story that all should read.

A book with Pink on the cover:

zodiac-starforce

Zodiac Starforce, #1 by Kevin Panetta, illus. by Paulina Ganucheau

I actually don’t know what this is about, but I’ve heard it’s good. I got it last year at a comic book expo. The bright cover caught my eye.

You were given a box of chocolate. What fictional boyfriend/girlfriend gave them to you?

Lol! 😀 My box of chocolates comes with a lap dance. 😉

You are single on Valentines Day. What book would you read? What TV show would you watch? What movie would you watch?

gone-girl

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Lol. Okay, so it’s not fitting for V Day, but it’s what I’m reading now so the answer is I’d read whatever I’m currently reading.

grimm-tv-show

Grimm

I’m kinda hooked on Grimm so I’d probably watch that. It really depends on my mood, though. If I want some action, I’d probably choose Last Ship, and if I want something sweet and sort of romantic, I’d probably look up episodes of the Good Witch or Fixer Upper.

lego-movie

The Lego Movie

I want to watch the Batman Lego Movie so I think I should watch the Lego movies first.

You are in the bookstore. All of a sudden, you get shot by Cupid’s arrow. What new release will you love?

map-of-days

Map of Days by Robert Hunter (illus.)

Map of Days is published by NoBrow Press, which publishes some beautifully illustrated books. So far, I only own their Wild Animals of the North by Dieter Braun, which I plan to read and review this year. I love the illustrations.

Spread the love!

And that means I tag everyone who sees this post.

I hope you all have a wonderful V Day, whether you’re celebrating it or not. 🙂

  1. Joe Manganiello! The man who got casted to play Deathstroke in the “maybe” solo Batman movie! 😀 I saw the Lego movie recently just to prepare myself for Lego Batman (waiting on friends, if not, going to wait till it releases digitally)! Lego movie was surprisingly good! Might take a little while before you’re fully invested into the movie, but things will quickly become fun! And I also second that SAGA is SAGATASTIC. Amazing series. ❤

P.S. We recently did a Valentine's day post where we wanted to thank some of our favourite bloggers out there. Yep, that includes you! Thank you so much for being part of our blogging world and for always having wonderful content to share with us/dropping by our blog to check out what's cooking! It's TRULY appreciated! ❤ Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's day, whether YOU're celebrating or not! 😉

    1. Aww man. 🙂 Thanks for the kind words, man. Really appreciate it. I certainly hop over there soon to check out the post.
And I didn’t know that Manganiello was casted as Deathstroke! I actually want to learn more about Deathstroke because of the Identity Theft comic. He seems interesting.
And yea, Saga. Totally awsome! 😀

      1. If you EVER decide to watch the DC TV shows, Deathstroke appears in Season 2 and its one of the BEST portrayal of the character too. Then again, watching the DC TV shows is something I’d only recommend people if they WANT to watch them. I wouldn’t say it’s anything like the Marvel Netflix shows when it comes to quality cinema. 😉

        1. I think of the DC TV shows, I’ve only watched some of Arrow but didn’t like it much. I prefer the Marvel ones on Netflix. Daredevil was really good; well, the first season was. I haven’t watched the rest of it yet.

        2. LOVED Daredevil, both season. The introduction of Punisher in Season 2 was also brilliant for me (especially the introduction of The Punisher). Have you tried the other Defenders? Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and the soon-to-release Iron Fist? Worth giving a shot if they interest you. They also plan on reuniting those guys together for a street-level Avengers called The Defenders sometime soon too. All right, too many shows. Feels like I’m just drowning you in them hahah

        3. Lol you are, but that’s cool man! I have a lot to work with and I like options. Btw, my fav part of Daredevil was in season 1 when he was fighting in the hallway. Just a straight fight. Awesome.
So far, I’ve tried Jessica Jones and I liked it, but it took a while for me to get into it. Haven’t tried the others yet.

        4. That scene was craaaazyyyy iconic!!! I absolutely adored it too! It’s also one continuous shot, something that GREATLY praised when done properly in cinema!! It also reminded me of a particular scene in Old Boy (the Asian original movie, not the American reboot). I also found Fisk to have been so perfectly portrayed. I’m quite glad that the show gave the villain some episodes to be built (something the Marvel movie NEVER do!).

        5. Old Boy is new to me so…I’mma google that now. But yea, the continuous shot and the unobtrusive music really helped to make us focus on just the fight. It reminded me of old king-fu movies I used to watch as kid where fight scenes focused on the fight.
And I agree about Fisk. Such a great villain. He’s actually one of my fav characters in the show. So complex. I love it when there’s more to the villain than them being bad.

        6. Exactly! If you ever plan on watching Oldboy (2003) directed by Park Chan-wook, you… better be REALLY mentally prepared. It has the craziest ending ever. And what I was referring to was a hallway fight scene in that movie, which I’m pretty sure you’ll see similarities with Daredevil’s own scene!

        7. Oh man! I don’t mind a crazy ending, as long as it’s not a very, very ambiguous one. I’m gonna see if it’s on Amazon or Netflix or summin.
          Thanks for the rec!

    1. The movie made me want to read the book, and I’d only seen the last half of it. I finished the book yesterday and enjoyed it. Now I want to see the movie from beginning to end.
      Yea, Beloved is unsettling.

  3. I’ve given up on tags/awards since last year because I was so bad on keeping them up. Kudos to you for scheduling this one perfectly however though. Also, don’t worry. I may be the only other person that hasn’t read Captive Prince as well. I need to remedy that soon though. And I may have laughed when I saw you chose Gone Girl. I’d agree that that isn’t the most suitable choice either. XD

    Also, happy Valentine’s day, Zezee!

Btw, I just took a quick peek at your blog. Love the new design! I’ll have to visit again on the weekend though when I have more time.

  4. Wow I haven’t heard of most of these books and they all look like books that I would love! Saga looks really interesting, I wouldn’t mind giving it a go. I’ve never been very good at reading comic books, that sounds silly but I find them hard to follow because I don’t know what direction they go in lol. I love this post! So many original books!

    1. Aww that’s not silly. Couple other folks have trouble following the panels too in comics. I don’t find it hard to read comics but it was hard to figure out the reading direction when I tried mangas for the first time.
      Def give Saga a try.
