Entertainer Blogger Award

And I’m kicking off this stream of “catch up on stuff I was tagged for” with the Entertainer Blogger Award. I’m a year late with this post because I’m the ultimate slacker, but shout out to Alex at Whimsy Pages, Ann at Ann’s Reading Corner, and Rachel at Life of a Female Bibliophile, who all nominated me.

I may be late, but I totally appreciate it, y’all!!

Rules:
  • Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Add these rules to your post.
  • Answer all the questions below.
  • Display the award picture in your post.
  • Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring and most important of all ENTERTAINING!
Why did you start a blog in the first place?

Because I wanted to chat about books and reading with people who are as interested as I am in talking about those things, especially about fantasy novels. My family and friends read, though not as avidly as me, but they prefer contemporary, literary, or mystery novels, which I enjoy as well, but they refuse to read fantasy, which I love, so I had no one to talk to about that genre or to even recommend books to me.

What is your favorite book?

How unfair! That’s hard to choose from all the books I’ve read.

Well, constant favorites are books 1 and 4 of the Harry Potter series, and Their Eyes Were Watching God is my favorite classic. For comics, I love Saga, Vol. 4 and the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series. As for audiobooks, which I started dabbling in last year, You is a favorite, and two books I read this year and placed on my favorites list are Normal and The Curse of Chalion.

What do you dislike the most?

White sauces (weird, I know), the smell of cheese, being told I should cook and clean and be tidy and compromise A LOT because I’m female, people who boast about how humble and kind and selfless they are, those fucking videos of people being kind to others (that’s what we’re SUPPOSED to do, no need to publicize it or congratulate the person for doing what is right!), people constantly apologizing for their opinion (these days), people who quickly jump to conclusions without first listening and trying to understand, the almost total intolerance of different opinions or way of life or culture or religion (these days and the many decades humanity has been around), fucking fake news, fucking Trump and his move to end DACA (da fuck, dude?!).

Or do you mean bookish dislikes? In that case, insta-love, characters who never develop over the course of a story, writing that is unnecessarily complicated, a flimsy foundation that crumbles as the story tries to progress, characters of color who pop up to prove a damn point, characters who get angry for no damn reason (Nynaeve), characters who are motivated solely by anger (Nynaeve), weak worldbuilding… I could go on.

What is your favorite food item from the mall?

Cinnabon.

I. Love. This! ❤

It’s scrumdiliumcious.

The only white sauce I don’t mind eating.

What is your favorite pastime?

Other than reading, I also enjoy drawing, though I haven’t done so in a very long time, and coloring and having very long discussions with friends on a variety of topics. To me, we talk on the topic until we’re empty and have nothing else to say. Sometimes this happens with total strangers, which is fun and weird. I met an older gentleman by random once and we got into a long discussion about music and culture. He was a former professor at a university out in California.

  1. Thank you so much for the nomination!! Loved your answers- *shuffles uncomfortably about the books on here that I have on my tbr cos of your rec and haven’t read yet* 😉 Gosh yes to people boasting about being kind and humble- drives me crazy. And I agree it’s super irritating to have people apologising for their opinions- but I’d also put *having* to put so many addendums into every opinion so that people don’t bite my head off every time I open my mouth- so also not being allowed to have an opinion!! AND YES I HATE INTOLERANCE OF OTHER OPINIONS!! An opinion is not a person and it’s not an insult to disagree on something!! And maybe, just maybe we shouldn’t be so wedded to our own ideas that we can never change our minds (hehe sorry- going off on a tangent-
you’re just hitting on so many of my personal pet peeves here). And yes to all those pet hates with books too 😉 yuck to instalove and stupid plots especially. I didn’t know you liked drawing- that’s cool! And love long discussions (and super long comments apparently 😉 sorry bout that 😉 )

    1. No problem.
Haha! It’s cool. I get recs too I haven’t read yet but it’s more awkward IRL when someone pops up and asks constantly if you’ve read it yet, which, outta my stubbornness, makes me not want to read the book anymore, lol.
Totally agree about not being allowed to have an opinion! It’s annoying to hear peeps adding futher explanations to their opinions simply to avoid backlash about their opinions. It weakens whatever statement they made, as if they don’t fully stand by it.
Lol I don’t mind the long comments at all lol.

      1. hehehe I’m the same 😂😂 some of my friends are always asking me about books they recommended, and I’m trying to explain I have 300+ books on my tbr and I’ll get to it when I get to it… but then they say “what’s a tbr?” and I just throw my hands up in despair! 😉 😂

Yes!! I’m often that person lol- but to be honest I’m just totally sick of people jumping on everything I say and putting words in my mouth (especially cos it happens whenever I don’t do that- as in this literally happened to me recently, someone told me not to do the whole addendum thing, so I didn’t, then someone else jumped on something I said five mins later) Gah- it’s so frustrating. It’s like my brother says: “everyone has to act like a politician nowadays”. It must be very annoying for people cos I’m longwinded enough as it is 😂😂😂

hehehe great 😉 cos I think this might have been even longer 😂

        1. Lol at that “what’s a tbr.”

Lol! I totally see why peeps feel the need to add them and I bet it’s even more frustrating for peeps who have to. I don’t add them but I sometimes find myself stating a lesser version of what I intended to say. I mean it’s good think before you speak, which is the only positivity I see in all this, put shutting down opinions really don’t help.

          Lol, no prob.

        2. hehehe I know right!!

Yes for sure- obviously think before you speak is sensible. But yes, it’s no good to just shut people down- I’m willing to change my mind if someone can put their case convincingly, but I never find that someone just shouting me down will convince me of anything- so I can’t imagine why people think that’s a good tactic.

    1. Oh gosh! I love those sweet, warm cinnabuns. I’m craving one now just thinking about it lol.

And yea, I see such boasting all the time on FB and even in real life where peeps boast about helping others and then say they’re humble. It’s so annoying.

  3. Hello! Congrats on the award! Love your answers to these questions.
Yes I also hate how people assume women should do certain things and behave a certain way. (Can’t believe there are still people who do that in this day and age lol.) and YES don’t get me started on Trump!
Absolutely loved Full Metal Alchemist back in the day 🙂 Its a series that I definitely want to go back and reread!

    1. Thanks!
And my whole family believes that of women (they’re very old skool) so I’m constantly annoyed by it. And, ugh, Trump makes my head hurt
I need to reread Fullmetal too so I can continue with the ones I haven’t yet read.
