I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani at Perspective of a Writer to share our love of great characters. Each week, Dani will assign a topic/type of character that we must find examples of in the various media we consume (books, TV shows, movies, comics, podcasts, etc.).
Last week’s topic:
A minor character who needs their own story
(Any character I want an expanded story about.)
Oh…this one is a toughy. There are so many to choose from. Well, since I’m on a Robin-Hobb kick at the moment, I choose….
Chade Fallstar
First of all, that’s a bad-ass name for a spy and secondly, he has become a more fascinating character in the Tawney Man trilogy, which made me curious about his backstory. Reading a trilogy about him, the adventures he had before and while in service to the kingdom, would be loads of fun. We get some info on him in the Tawney Man trilogy, but it’s not enough. I want a whole book about him or from his perspective.
This week’s topic:
Mentor Me!
(A mentor character that I wish would mentor me too!)
I was going to choose Dumbledore but then I realized that Dumbledore isn’t a great mentor. He’s too manipulative. So instead, I chose —
Jessica Pearson from Suits
…though she can be manipulative too.
Suits is drama TV show that airs on USA network that I used to love. The story revolves around the lawyers at a prestigious law firm and I was hooked on it all through seasons 1 and 2 and maybe 3 too. I think this TV show is the perfect selection for this category because the first season focuses on a guy who’s being mentored by one of the lawyers at the firm. I, however, would like to be mentored by Jessica Pearson because she’s a fierce, formidable, independent woman in charge of the firm, and she slays all day every day. I LOVE her wardrobe!!!
Jessica Pearson is such a great fierce, strong, smart woman!! I loved her in the show! All the characters in suits are great to be honest

Yea. I liked them all that’s why I kept watching it, but after a while the story wasn’t as strong anymore. Louis is my next fav and also Donna.

Gimme that Chade prequel NOW! I’d so read it. But to be honest, I’d probably read a trilogy about the cook in Buckkeep castle. Or a random maid.. Or a stray cat^^

Lol! Same here. I’ll read anything set in that world.

I enjoyed Jessica Pearson’s character on Suits, too! “Fierce and formidable” is exactly right!

She was great! 🙂 I heard she was getting her own spinoff show, but I didn’t see any previews for it.

Zezee YES!! Jessica Pearson from Suits is so badass! I loved her!! I don’t think I got to season 3 because we gave up cable but I LOVED her… she was just as formidable as the leads of Suits (who I also love, but agree she would be the lawyer mentor I’d want too!) ❤️ And Chade… gotta love a spy! Every time you bring up Robbin Hobb I think that I’ve got to read that entire series! I did get my reading partner to pick up the first book… but I think I’ve got to just jump to the Tawny Man series and skip the earlier set…?! What do you think yes? No?! 😀 Perfect choices!

Noooo!!! 😀 lol lol Start with the Farseer ones. I mean, you could start with the Liveship Ones instead, but reading from Farseer to the Tawney Man makes the little surprise nuggets in that story that much better. Some things probably won’t be as impactful if you don’t read those other books first, but I do understand not wanting to slog through the others before sampling the awesomeness of the Tawney Man books. 😀
Lol, I think I may have mentioned Robin Hobb’s characters in every I Heart post so far lol. I’ll have to check.
And yea! Jessica was great. I LOVED her wardrobe.

I agree about Chade! I’ve only read the first trilogy so far, but I’d love to know more about him.

He gets even more interesting by Tawney Man. For the whole trilogy I thought he might become a villain or something, but that’s probably just me.
