I Heart Characters! #16: A Minor Character OTP Hook Up

I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani at Perspective of a Writer to share our love of great characters. Each week, Dani assigns a topic/type of character that we must find examples of in the various media we consume (books, TV shows, movies, comics, podcasts, etc.).

Since I often skip a week (or two), I mash the character types Dani assigns into one to create a bonus character type that I include at the end of the post. The title of my post indicates the bonus character type I’ll feature at the end. But for now, here are the topics Dani assigned.

February 14 topic:

A Minor Character Romance

There is that character that is off to the side … how should their romance go? Is it with a character in the same story world or a cross-over romance? You get to decide all the details … how do they meet? Is it love at first sight or does it entail an adventure?

Queen Kettricken & Peottre Blackwater

Wow! It’s my 50th book haul post! 😀 I think I should celebrate this. Maybe buy myself another book or something.

Anyway, here’s what I got since last time.

Purchases

Physical
Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James

Marlon James is one of my favorite authors, though I’ve only read one of his now four books. But the one I read — The Book of Night Women, a historical fiction novel set on a plantation in Jamaica, — is one of my favorite books; so I was beyond excited when it was announced couple years back that he would write a fantasy novel.

“Comet Rising” by MarcyKate Connolly

Middle-grade fantasy

Shadow Weaver, book 2

Pubbed:

January 2019

Goodreads summary:

Something is very wrong with the sky…

So glad to have been been invited by Millie at Milliebot Reads to another Judging a Book by Its Cover post. This time I shared an adorable picture book by Maudie Powell-Tuck that’s illustrated by Karl James Mountford.

Check it out by following the link below and check out more of Millie’s posts. I HIGHLY recommend her series of posts where she revisits books she thought were written by R.L. Stine that she enjoyed as a teen. They are hilarious!

This is my weekly post where I highlight beautiful books from my collection. We all judge book covers to some extent (don’t lie, you totally do!) I created this feature to showcase and admire the art and design elements of some of the books I own. If covers didn’t matter, publishers wouldn’t make so many […]

Book Tag Week: Bookish Scenarios Book Tag

Book Tag Week continues with the Bookish Scenarios Book Tag, which was created by booktuber LindsayHeartsBooks.

You have to get rid of all your books and you can only keep one from each of these genres —contemporary, fantasy, nonfiction, and one other genre of your choosing. What books do you keep?
Contemporary

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares

The beginning of a YA fantasy series about four friends who share a pair of jeans one summer that magically fits them all. These books are so sweet and I love how strong the friendship is between the girls.

Book Tag Week: Types of Memes Book Tag

Book Tag Week!! 😀

And now I present the Types of Memes Book Tag. It was created by Icebreaker694. I would have included pics of the memes, but that’s too much to do and I’m feeling lazy so just pretend I included them, yah!

Grumpy Cat
A book you have negative feelings about

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Celaena Sardothien sucks. She’s not a great assassin at all! I’ve only read the first 2 books of this series and they were both average. Because of what the story promised – the protagonist being a badass assassin, – I was disappointed by it. The protagonist doesn’t reach that level.

Book Tag Week: Sailor Moon Book Tag

Book Tag Week continues with the Sailor Moon Book Tag, which was created by booktuber Alexa Loves Books.

Moon
A book that makes you hungry

Delicious! by Ruth Reichl

A contemporary novel about a young woman who moves to New York City to work at a food magazine. I read this one last year and though I liked it at first, I was annoyed by the time it ended. The only thing I consistently loved was the food mentioned. I still would like to try making the cake the protagonist is great at baking. A recipe for it is included in the book.

Book Tag Week: Pro-Wrestling Book Tag

It’s BOOK TAG WEEK y’all!!! 😀 😀

What’s Book Tag Week, you may or may not ask? It’s exactly as it sounds. It’s a week of only book tag posts on Zezee with Books.

I often do book tags on here but sometimes, when I’m stressed or out of ideas or out of book reviews or in a blogging slump or just feel like posting a bunch of book tags, I declare a Book Tag Week. I’m starting to think of it as a fun blogging holiday. Hmm… 🙂

There are no set dates for Book Tag Week. It pops up whenever the fancy takes me and may even last for more than a week because I feel like it should.

So, if you’re stressed, in a slump, bored, or just wanna post some book tags all week, you’re more than welcome to join in BOOK TAG WEEK with me! 😀

Well, I’m gonna kick it off with a bang. Here’s the….

Pro-Wrestling Book Tag

The Pro-Wrestling Book Tag was created by Neko Neha of the blog, BiblioNyan. She also runs a booktube channel of the same name where she posted the original version of this tag.

“Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup” by John Carreyrou

The first two nonfiction books I read this year are astounding. The first — Dopesick by Beth Macy, which I recently reviewed, — is about America’s opioid crisis and how the pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma helped start it with its aggressive marketing of the opioid drug Oxycontin that many doctors overprescribed. The second I will discuss in this post. It was a shocking read and I’m sure my face was an expression of astonishment the entire time I read it because “How the hell was she able to get away with this for so long??”

Genre:

Nonfiction – true crime; business; science

Pubbed:

2018

Goodreads summary:

The full inside story of the breathtaking rise and shocking collapse of Theranos, the multibillion-dollar biotech startup, by the prize-winning journalist who first broke the story and pursued it to the end, despite pressure from its charismatic CEO and threats by her lawyers.
