I Heart Characters! #16: A Minor Character OTP Hook Up

I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani at Perspective of a Writer to share our love of great characters. Each week, Dani assigns a topic/type of character that we must find examples of in the various media we consume (books, TV shows, movies, comics, podcasts, etc.).

Since I often skip a week (or two), I mash the character types Dani assigns into one to create a bonus character type that I include at the end of the post. The title of my post indicates the bonus character type I’ll feature at the end. But for now, here are the topics Dani assigned.

February 14 topic:

A Minor Character Romance

There is that character that is off to the side … how should their romance go? Is it with a character in the same story world or a cross-over romance? You get to decide all the details … how do they meet? Is it love at first sight or does it entail an adventure?

Queen Kettricken & Peottre Blackwater

This is a bit of a spoiler if you haven’t read past the first book in the Realm of the Elderlings series — Assassin’s Apprentice, — but Kettricken and Peottre were the first characters to pop in my mind when I read this topic. To avoid any major spoilers about the series, I won’t say much about these characters or what they do, but Kettricken is from the Mountain Kingdom and, due to certain events, she later becomes queen of the Six Duchies. Peottre is from the Outislands and, due to certain events, he visits Buckkeep with his niece in the Tawney Man trilogy.

Because of how they interact with each other, I think romance could blossom between these two. They both seem to hold similar values and to respect each other. It’s totally possible something could happen between them if they spend more time together. I sensed a connection at some point…(can’t say when because spoilers).

An OTP that Embodies Your Favorite Trope

Maise & Evan

This took some thinking, but I think I’m drawn to forbidden love romances. I think it’s that quality that I find so appealing about Unteachable, which is a new adult contemporary romance novel about girl who enters into a romantic relationship with her high-school teacher. The story is a hit or miss with many readers because of the taboo plot point, but I loved it. I love the intensity of the relationship and how distressing it is at times because the characters know they shouldn’t be together but, oh, they can’t resist the temptation. It’s such a juicy premise!

Man I’d Play Hooky With

What kind of hooky? You decide … as long as they’re the one you’d flout responsibilities to hang out with!

Aquaman — or just Jason Momoa

The answer is Jason Momoa; but if I have to choose a character he plays, I’m going with Aquaman all tatted up and looking damn fine! Lawd! I’d play hooky from work with him. We can go visit his kingdom under the sea among other things…

Margo & Penny from The Magicians TV show

Don’t get it twisted: I do not ship these two — Penny can’t handle my gurl Margo — BUT I’m all for them hooking up! (Since it seems that everyone in this show has slept with each other.) Anyway, did I ever mention that I’m back to watching The Magicians again and am seriously hooked?

If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been posting much on my blog lately, it’s because (I’m working two jobs AND) I’m hooked on The Magicians and am marathoning the show on Netflix. Am trying to watch it as fast as I can to catch up to the current season on SyFy. I have no idea why I decided I didn’t like it back when it just came out. That was silly Zezee. Smart Zezee — today’s Zezee — is fucking HOOKED!! O_O
