Weekend Reads #95: Week 2 — NEWTs Progress Report

Weekend Reads is a weekly post in which I discuss a variety of topics and mention the books I plan to read on the weekend. However instead of a topic, I’ll instead share my progress on my N.E.W.T.s (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests).

I spent a couple days last week not reading anything, so I’m a little behind but still making decent progress… I think. 🙂

Astronomy

I exceeded my own expectations with this one and earned an Outstanding.
Books read: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Vol. 1: BFF by Brandon Montclare & Amy Reeder, illus. by Natacha Bustos; In the Night Wood by Dale Bailey; Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clark

Divination

This is my other required subject. I’m half a book away from gaining an E. I don’t know why it’s taking me such a long time to get through Moonshot.
Book read: The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil by Stephen Collins (illus.)

Additional

For Aurologists, a research paper on color theory is required. I haven’t made progress on The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair. I’m over halfway through the book but have stopped to procrastinate. 😐

History of Magic

I got an E! 😀
Book read: Cinderella: or the Little Glass Slipper by Charles Perrault, illus. by Camille Rose Garcia; Emperor Mage by Tamora Pierce

Herbology

I just have an A so far. I’m not crazy about Herbology so I might just stop here and get started on the other subjects I selected.
Book read: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling, narr. by Jim Dale

Yea… still haven’t yet started on the other subjects.

What I’m currently reading:

My plan is to complete all three of these this weekend.

Moonshot: The Indigenous Comics Collection ed. by Hope Nicholson

It’s an anthology of comics by Native American artists. I should be able to complete it this weekend.

The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair

If I don’t complete it this weekend, I’d like to have at least made some progress toward doing so by Monday.

The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron

I’m currently buddy-reading this with Millie from Milliebot Reads. We both read and liked it as kids and are reading it now to see if the story still works for us. We should complete it before the month is done, which will get me an O in History of Magic.

What are you reading this weekend?

Are you participating in the N.E.W.T. Magical Readathon? If so, what’s your progress so far?
