Spooky Book Tag

Time for more Halloween book tags!! 😀

Today I’m doing the Spooky Book Tag, which was created by booktuber the Book Pusher.

Corn Maze

What book had you confused and lost from the very beginning?

The Expanse

The first thing that came to mind was The Expanse TV show, which is an adaptation of a sci-fi book series of the same name by James S.A. Corey. The first book is Leviathan Wakes. The first season confused me, but I enjoyed it despite that and wanted to keep watching. (I didn’t; I hardly ever have time to watch TV.) I’d like to try the books. They’re often recommended to me.

Haunted House

What book has the creepiest setting?

The Shining by Stephen King

The Overlook Hotel is one of the creepiest settings I’ve ever read about. First, the majority of the story takes place at a time when the hotel is deserted because people don’t spend winters there, and second, the story has a psychological thrill to it so it’s hard to tell if the supernatural occurrences actually happened or is an hallucination of some kind — hard to tell what’s real or not. I’d never want to visit there. I’d look at it from afar.

Ghost Boyfriend

Who is your eternal book boyfriend?

Hmm… I don’t think I have one. I admire some male characters but don’t often consider them as such.

Caramel Apple Suckers

Best dang Halloween book ever.

Through the Woods by Emily Carroll (illus.)

This is a great one for Halloween, and I kinda wish I’d waited until this time of year to read it. It’s a horror graphic novel that contains short creepy stories that read like fairytales.

“Vampires in Everything”

What is your least favorite Halloween trope?

Umm… maybe dressing up in white sheets with two holes for eyes to be a ghost.

“Pumpkin in Everything”

You favorite Halloween trope?

Trick or treating (although I’ve never been), costume parties, dressing up in costumes, scary movie marathons, decorated houses

Evil Incarnate

the most evil villain

Walter White from Breaking Bad

I’m on season 3 of Breaking Bad now. I’m late to the TV show and I have to slowly make my way through it. I like it but it unsettles me sometimes. Walter White is one of the most evil villains I’ve ever come across because he doesn’t think of himself as a bad person, or rather doesn’t want to think of himself so. At the point I’m at, he doesn’t want to. And he’s so manipulative! OMG! He…ugh! I had to take a break from the show just because of him.

Oujji Board
A book that messes with things that you don’t want to be involved in

The Diviners by Libba Bray

I think there’s an ouija board in this one and contact with spirits and all that. I enjoy reading about it and watching it on TV as entertainment but I don’t fucks with it. Nope. Nope. Nope.

Full Moon

What character do you turn into on the full moon?

Dee from Rat Queens

Yep! 😀 I like her and love her outfit too. And she is one of the four badass women who work as mercenaries. I enjoyed the first and second volumes of Rat Queens and need to continue with it.

All Hallows Eve

The other world and this world have meshed for one night; what book world would you love to be swept up in?

The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill (illus.)

The cute graphic novel about dragons that grow tea leaves from their horns has become my new favorite fantasy world. It would be great to visit it and have a tea dragon and make special teas from its leaves and care for them.

Voodoo Doll

What author would you love to take control of and make them write you anything you want?

J.K. Rowling

More Harry Potter stories please 🙂 (that follows and matches up with what happened in the books.)

I wouldn’t want to take control of her or make her do anything though. That sounds mean.

Black Cat

What red flags do you look for when first starting out a book?

Any mentions of insta-love. (Well, that’s if reviewers mention it’s in the story.) Writing that immediately turns me off.

Witches Brew

A book that had a lot of different components thrown in but the result was magical.

the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan

I couldn’t think of an answer and The Eye of the World kept popping up in my head. I think it’s because Jordan draws on various mythologies and religions to create the world and magic system in his 13-book long epic fantasy series.

And that’s it. 🙂

  2. I absolutely love the Expanse! But I admit it can be pretty confusing. When I watched the latest season I had to stop and read a recap of the previous one because I’d forgotten most of it and had no idea what was going on 😂 It’s an amazing show though.

And that’s cool you’re watching Breaking Bad for the first time. Some of those seasons really are tough to watch (he’s such an unlikeable character!) but I hope you enjoy the rest of it – the final season is probably the best final season of any TV show I’ve ever seen 🙂

    1. In that case, I really need to continue with both shows, esp Breaking Bad. It will take a while for me to get through it though. I’m not squeamish but something about Walter White’s transformation/character really makes me uncomfortable.

      1. Yes it can be an uncomfortable and depressing transformation – I struggled to maintain the will to keep watching sometimes. But the amazing writing of certain scenes and episodes along the way, and the ending, made it worth it for me ultimately. I hope you find the same when you get to them!

  3. I just finished the last episode of season three-breaking bad this morning. Oh man there’s no lack of villains in that show !
The things you say about WALT are true but I think you could apply them to nearly all of the characters.

Oh ! I’m hoping they have season four on the shelves in the small town where I go to shop !!

    1. Yea, just about everyone in that show is shades of grey.
I wish I could marathon the seasons but I have to take it in doses. The show is so unsettling to me sometimes.

      1. No season four !!!!
Small towns really suck sometimes ! great drive there tho . The only thing I’ve watched that has unsettled me is the Swedish version of the girl with the dragon tattoo , that movie is just sick .
