Characters of the Year Book Tag | 2019

I’ve decided to do this tag every year in addition to the roundup review of the books I read in the previous year. Characters need some love too and sometimes they stick with me longer than the story.

I believe this tag was created by Amanda, A Brighter Shade of Hope, at least that’s what I said in my previous posts of this tag; but Amanda’s tag link no longer works. Maybe it was taken down. I mention all this because I like to credit those who create the tags, and I really think she created this one.

Favorite male character of the year

Fitz

It’s Fitz from Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings epic fantasy series, which I completed in 2019. Fitz impressed me and ended up ripping my heart out in the last book, Assassin’s Fate. Oh my gosh! He has done and sacrificed so much for his family and kingdom…. I wasn’t happy with his fate by end of this book, but… I miss him so much. I wish there were more books (although the series is 16 books long and took me and Emily about 4 years to complete).

Favorite female character of the year

Margo

The Magicians TV show is one of my favorite TV series at the moment and apart from Elliot, Margo is my favorite character. I love her as queen with her fairy eye (and love the stylish eye patches too). She’s certainly my favorite female character of 2019. I enjoyed seeing how her character developed to become a formidable queen.

Most relatable character of the year

Pallavi

I could relate to Pallavi because of her relationship with her parents, how they worry about her and how they are set in old ways, traditions, and beliefs, some of which Pallavi has outgrown. The moments when she’s annoyed by her mother were hilarious and very relatable.

Couple of the year

Sam & Evie

Only because those two would love to have such a title for their charade.

Villain of the year

Thanos from Avengers Endgame

The answer was Thanos last year and it’s Thanos again this year because this dude is hard to kill. He keeps coming back, somehow. If there’s another Avengers flick, I bet he’ll be the villain there too. He’s one of my favorite characters for sure.

Most disliked character of the year

Randall Flagg a.k.a. the Dark Man

Because all he does is laugh. I mean, yeah, he does other things, very evil things, but he laughs too damn much. It was annoying.

Royal of the year

Kettricken

Like Nighteyes, Ketrricken would be who I’d have chosen for… She’s a great queen; a strong, brave woman who truly served as sacrifice for her people. Oh the reveals in this book! She knew things I thought she wouldn’t have. Now I’m thinking of the possibilities, and I can’t say anything straight because this is the last book in the entire series, so to be clear is to share spoilers.

Sidekick/non-main character of the year

Jaskier

Okay, I actually don’t know this character that well and I think the show needs to flesh him out some more, but he’s here because I can’t get this damn song out my head! (Love it though.)

Sibling of the year

Korede

Because Ayoola can always count on her to have her back no matter what, even when she kills someone, by accident of course.

That’s it for me.
Consider yourself tagged if you’d like to do this tag too.

        1. It is, well the ones in the Farseer trilogy are. Those would be easier. The other books that have more than one POV chaps circulate among only a handful of peeps (not like GOT with all dem characters) n are first-person narration.

  1. Ooooh my favorite character of the year has got to be Memphis from The Diviners, which I started reading for the first time and promptly fell in love with pretty much everyone. I *think* I like Memphis the most, but it’s a strong fistfight in there for the spot as a fave. It seems to change depending on whose chapter I’m reading 😂

Also, I love this tag! I really want to do it now ❤️
