Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but is now managed by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic:
Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…
I’ve decided to focus on books I bought because booktubers and bloggers often mention them.
Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
It’s on my bookshelves still waiting to be read. I bought the U.K. editions because these white covers are just gorgeous. That’s part of the reason why I bought the boxed set.
Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb
Sam’s Nonsense, a booktuber, convinced me to try these books and I’m SO glad I did because they are some of my favorite fantasy novels. I’m a huge Robin Hobb fan now and have read all the books in this trilogy and the larger Realm of the Elderlings series.
Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch
I bought this and the second book in the trilogy because I love the covers. Also, a booktuber, Hailey in Bookland, convinced me to try it because she often talked about it. I liked it and would like to complete the trilogy.
The Raven Boys series by Maggie Stiefvater
A combination of bloggers and booktubers convinced me to try this series, and I really enjoyed it. I love how atmospheric it is.
Soulless by Gail Carriger
For this one, it was actually bookish newsletters I subscribe to (so booksellers and publishers) that convinced me to get this book. I haven’t yet read it, but I hope to do so sometime this year.
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
It took a whole year, I think, before I gave into the hype and read this book. I ended up really liking it and am looking forward to trying her recently published, The Glass Hotel.
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
So many bloggers and booktubers were talking about this one when it was published, so I bought it. Still haven’t read it yet though, lol!
You by Caroline Kepnes
Another popular one, but I read it and loved it so much that a got an audio copy of it too, which is also great.
Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi
I still can’t believe I haven’t yet read this one either. The hype and the pretty cover made me buy it.
Great list. I think Station 11 is going to be one of my ‘books I read because of book bloggers’ for sure. People keep recommending it to me. 🙂

It’s so good. So well written. And I just love how she highlights all the stuff we take for granted now. And how amazing some of our everyday things are. Highly recommend!

I read Soulless and it’s a pretty good book. I have to finish the rest of the Parasol Protectorate series. Carringer’s books are intriguing.

I’ve added Station 11 to my TBR for the same reason!

It’s a really good book. Depending on the types of books you want to read these days, maybe avoid it for now if you don’t want to read about an epidemic.

I read Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy based on a friend’s recommendation and while I enjoyed the first part, I really ended up not liking the rest of it – I can safely say Sanderson is not an author for me ;). I love Realm of Elderlings, though – it’s still among my favorite fantasy series!

It’s interesting because I now hear mostly mixed reviews of his books these days.
Hobb’s books are so good 😊 am now rereading them on audio.

I also picked up ‘Assassin’s Apprentice’ because a friend kept pushing it at me 😀 I wanted to read it at some point, but probably wouldn’t have read it this early if she wasn’t nagging me all the time!
In the end I’m glad she did 😀

Oh boy! Back before the internet – meaning before there were social media sites for readers, before there were book bloggers, before there was netgalley, etc., my book purchases were consistent but much more modest than they have been in recent years! There is a hardcover novel [that will go nameless] which I bought – in part – because of social media hype and a beautiful cover which got me to attend the author event (with book-signing)….but ultimately, no matter how hard I tried, I didn’t like the book and every time I look at it, now, I want my money back! 😂

🤣🤣I’m so curious to know which book it is.
But it’s the same with me. I buy a lot more books now and read a lot more too because of social media.
