Goodreads summary:
At Miss Qiunzilla Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s camp for hard-core lady-types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together… And they’re not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here. (Goodreads)
My thoughts:
Lumberjanes is another popular comic book series I was curious about, so I read it on Comixology during my comic-book bingeing days. However, unlike Nimona, this one didn’t work out for me, and I thought it was a little overrated.
It’s about the crazy adventures a group of girls go on while at camp. I like that the story focuses on a diverse group of girls who treasure their friendship and are willing to always help and stand up for each other. I also like the weird supernatural occurrences that cause the girls to go off on crazy adventures and later end up in trouble with their camp counsellor (I felt so sorry for her, lol!) and that there are some Greek myth references sprinkled throughout. There is a lot of humor, and I’m sure it’s entertaining, but it didn’t appeal to me at all. However, I’m sure the intended audience will enjoy it.
(Btw, Ripley is my favorite. She turns up the volume on things.)
Art style:
Another disappointment here because I’m not a fan of this type of cartoon style. Actually, I assumed that the illustrations inside the book would be like the cover illustration. (Comic book covers always mislead me. It’s so annoying.) However, the illustrations inside the book aren’t bad, they just don’t work for me.
Overall: ★★☆☆☆
A middle-grade comic book about the strength of friendship. It didn’t appeal to me, but I’m the odd fish here. Many other readers love it.

I think kids and teens, and even some adults, will enjoy it, so I suggest Buying it for them.
I think my reaction to this one would probably be similar too, or maybe even more negative depending on how much I look into it hahaha Great review. 🙂

Lol! Probably more negative.
It’s a fun but very silly fun, so it didn’t work out for me.

Comic book covers are the worst! Or the best, depends on the way you look at them 😉 But yes, I’ve been misled by them many times! The Monstress in a wonderful exception to this rule, though 😀

Yes!! Monstress is and also Saga. I love Saga.

It’s a cute series- I like the emphasis on female friendship, with no drama among the group.

I liked that too. I liked the camaraderie among them. I just really wasn’t feeling the art or the very silly tone at time.

That happens to me a lot too. The cover is amazing and then it looks like they’re not even trying on the inside, lol.

Exactly! But I recently realized that sometimes it’s a different artist who does the cover, which is very tricksy of them. I always feel a little duped, lol.
