Can you believe it’s been over a month since I last posted a book tag on here? I can’t. Well, here’s the I Should Have Read That book tag. It was created by Beth at Books Nest.
A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
Soulless by Gail Carriger
One of my coworkers often recommends this book to me based on my recent reading tastes, and it is one I want to read, I just haven’t worked up to it yet. It would be great to read it this year. Maybe I’ll do so in October. It seems perfect for the fall months.
A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up
The Jumbies by Tracey Baptiste
Oh gosh, there are so many! But I went with the Jumbies because I really should have read this already. It’s middle grade fantasy inspired by Caribbean folklore.
A book in a series you’ve started but haven’t gotten Around to finishing yet
Paladin of Souls by Louis McMaster Bujold
Again I chose one that I really should have read already. This is the second novel in the World of the Five Gods fantasy series. I really enjoyed the first book, The Curse of Chalion, which is one of my favorites and is about a veteran soldier who yearns for a peaceful life but gets swept up in political and mystical intrigues.
A classic you’ve always liked the sound of but never actually read
The Odyssey by Homer
I’ve read excerpts of it. From what I’ve heard of it, it sounds like something I should like, but I believe I’ll be bored when I get cracking on it. Fagles’s translation certainly doesn’t seem to work for me. I attempted his translation of the Iliad and was so bored, I fell asleep every time I opened the book.
A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
And also the Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. Everyone except me has read these two books. I’ll read them eventually, someday…
A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
The Magicians by Lev Grossman
I really enjoyed this show and I intend to read the books, I… just haven’t done it yet. I’ve also heard such mixed reviews of the books. I do hope they aren’t horrible.
A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
For a while, I saw this book every time I went on IG to the point where I got tired of seeing it. I guess everyone loves it.
Hahaha, I feel attacked by this tag. I have a thousand books I should have read by now. I haven’t read Children of Blood and Bone either. I know everybody loves it, but I’ll probably never get around to reading it.

I enjoyed the Parasol Protectorate – it does take a little getting used to at first but then it is a fun read.

Paladin of Souls is amazing! In my opinion, it’s the strongest one in that series. (But also, I get it – so many books, so little time.)

Lol for real, yo! But one of these days I’ll get through them all.

I really loved Soulless, the humor is a bit much at times and some of the characters are way over the top drama but it’s a fun series overall.

I gotta read it when I’m in the mood for it then.

Yay! A tag!
Can recommend The Magicians. I haven’t seen the series, but I’ve read (and loved) the trilogy. There are a few dark and horrible moments, but all in all they’re good reading. 🙂

Thanks for the rec! The series had some dark moments too, so that’s not a bother for me.

I didn’t love Gideon the Ninth, so not everyone loved it…

True. I just keep seeing it mentioned everywhere with rave reviews.

I really enjoyed reading your answers to this tag! I also really need to read The Odyssey – for someone who’s obsessed with Greek mythology retellings I can’t believe I’ve not read it yet. And the importance of the translator didn’t even occur to me – let me know if you do find a decent translation! 📚❤️ X x x

Yup! I think the translator can make or break the reading experience sometimes.
