Christmas Book Blogger Tag

It’s Christmas!! My favorite time of year. 😀

We aren’t really celebrating Christmas this year in my household, but I’m still excited for the holiday and I do hope you all are having a wonderful, safe, socially distanced holiday season.

To celebrate Christmas on my blog, I’ve decided to do the Christmas Book Blogger Tag, which I found on Whimsy Pages. It was created by Trish at Between My Lines, whose blog seems to be down.

What Is Your Favourite Christmas Scene In A Book?

the Battle of Christmas Eve in the Nevermoor series

I recently completed the latest installment in the Nevermoor series — Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow — so it’s still on mind. That’s why I selected its annual Battle of Christmas Eve for this answer. Saint Nicholas and the Yule Queen battle to show off their magical powers and wow the Nevermoorians, and it’s amazing. I think it’s a wonderful celebration. (Btw, I lean more toward Saint Nicholas (because gifts! 😆) than the Yule Queen because I’m not a big fan of snow.)

Do You Have Any Christmas Book Traditions?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling, illus. by Jim Kay

Not really. I don’t think I have any such traditions, but I usually get in the mood to reread a Harry Potter book around this time of year. I won’t do so this year because I think I’ve reread the books too many times already.

Do You Prefer To Get Presents Of Book Vouchers Or Books?

Gift cards

I prefer gift cards so that I can choose my own gift, which might be a bookish thing rather than an actual book.

Do You Give Books As Presents?

Not really

I sometimes do if I know of a book the person REALLY wants to read, of if an author the person likes recently published a book the person doesn’t know about.

What Bookish Item Is On Your Christmas Wishlist?

Night Circus sweatshirt

Well, we aren’t doing Christmas this year, so I don’t have a wishlist. But if I did, I’d like to get this sweatshirt from Out of Print (or a gift card or anything from the store).

What 3 Books Would You Love Santa To Have In His Sack For You?

Kushiel’s Chosen by Jacqueline Carey
Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Katie O’Neill (illus.)

I’d like to get these three. Carey’s book because I want to join the readalong in the new year; Gyasi’s book, but in trade paperback (so that would be a sort of Christmas miracle, I guess, since the U.S. paperback isn’t available yet); and the third book in O’Neill’s middle grade fantasy series because I had it and had to return it due to printing issues, and now I don’t know if it’s published or not.

Fake Christmas Tree Or Real Christmas Tree?

Fake

I’ve never had a real Christmas tree before, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. I don’t mind the fake ones at all.

What’s Your Favourite Thing About Christmas?

the spirit

I just love the Christmas spirit. It’s warm and uplifting. No matter what’s going on in my life, this time of year always gives me a boost and finds me in a good mood. I’m even in a good mood now although I was full of anxiety, frustration, worry, and now pain (not corona) for most of the week so far. Christmas is my favorite time of year. And it’s not the gifts that make it so (although that helps), it’s just the jolliness of the season.

What Christmas Book Would You Recommend?

Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris

This book is hilarious! It’s a good read and an even better listen because Sedaris (and sometimes his sister) narrates it himself. It’s a book of short stories (or maybe personal essays) that are actually anti-Christmas as they poke fun at and criticize certain aspects of the holiday. But it’s a good read and very humorous too. I highly recommend it.

What Dish On Your Christmas Menu Are You Most Looking Forward To?

Jamaican black cake

We actually don’t have any this Christmas. (This is such a weird Christmas, smh.) This is like a staple of the Christmas holiday in my family. If made well, this cake is SOOO good. It’s a black cake that often has fruits in it (I don’t care for the fruits) and LOTS of rum (yum!). But we have none this Christmas although my aunt mailed one to us. The postal system is all messed up, so we probably won’t get it until next year, if we do get it. We don’t even have any sorrell (Caribbean Christmas drink). Just a very odd, off Christmas this year.

When Do You Open Your Christmas Presents?

First thing Christmas morning

Well, I’d like it to be first thing on Christmas morning, but it’s often not. Everyone else prefers to do it later, so I’m often the one running around forcing them to open it NOW!! Lol! They often say no to spite me.

What’s Your Favourite Christmas Song?

None. They are all annoying.

Lol! Okay, I lied. I actually like the Jingle Bell song.

Are You Dreaming Of A White Christmas?

Hell no!

And I’m glad we aren’t getting one this year. I like to look at a white Christmas, but I don’t like to be in it. I hate shoveling snow, and I hate walking in snow because I do not like the sound or the feel of the crunching under my foot or under my car wheels when I drive over it, and there’s no point in having snow this year because it’s not like I can have a snow day. That’s the only reason why I like snow a tiny bit.

Well then, I hope you’re having a very

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

  1. Ooof I feel you about snow xd i’m particularly glad that I usually work at 1pm so I don’t need to wake up at an ungodly hour in the morning to scrape my car’s window before work! Although Canada hadn’t gotten a green Christmas since I was a child.. we got one this year — it’s literally raining xD Even my birthday on the 27th don’t have it’s usual snow storm, i’ll get some sunshine (which, not gonna lie, I kinda like!)

We never had a real tree too. while no doubt it must smell SO GOOD, I would particularly fear the fire hazard. My family also have this “dish” traditional for our culture’s Christmas .. a lobster dip!! For some reason it had been forever since i’ve had one, so it tastes just so good!!

  2. I feel like as I get older and further and further away from all the years I spent in retail management, Christmas is becoming one of my favorite times of year as well. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas even though you weren’t doing anything big for it.

    1. Thanks!
And yes, Christmas is way sweeter when you don’t have to work in retail. I work part-time at a bookstore, but it didn’t damper my spirit much. But customers get so mean around the holidays.
