Top 5 Tuesday #65: Creepy Covers Coming ðŸ˜±

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah, the Bionic Book Worm, and now hosted by Meeghan at Meeghan Reads.

This week’s topic:

Top 5 creepy covers

(Let’s chat about all those book covers that give you super creepy atmospheric vibes!!)

Brace yourself. This is about book covers, so naturally I went overboard with the pics.

I haven’t read any of these books, so I’ll link to the Goodreads page.

Krampus: The Yule Lord by Brom (illus.)

This cover is one of the creepiest to me. I try not to look at it and will quickly scroll past whenever I glimpse it because it’s the type of image that annoyingly sticks around in my mind long after I see it.

Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw

Same with this one. It’s creepy, but I love the cover, so I don’t quickly scroll by. Instead, I try to ignore my fear as I admire it. I like the cover so much that I’m tempted to get myself a copy.

The Vivisector by Patrick White

This is probably the most disturbing book cover I’ve ever seen. I cringe every time I look at it and cannot look at it for long. It’s my worst fear of the eye doctor come to life.

The Case Against Satan by Ray Russell

This isn’t scary to me, but it is creepy, and I like the effect placed on the photo to make it so.

Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe by Thomas Ligotti

Another one that’s not scary but may be disturbing to some. I, however, like this cover a lot. Actually, I borrowed a copy from the library once because I couldn’t look away from it. I was so drawn to the cover. I only managed to read one story before I had to return the book.

A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

Not scary to me, but it’s here because I like the cover and it has a creepy vibe to it. My favorite things about it are the long veil the little skeletons.

The Loosening Skin by Aliya Whiteley

It took me forever to remember the title of this book. I get the impression that it’s scifi that has some horror bits to it. The cover is unsettling to me because of the layers to the face.

Prosper’s Demon by K.J. Parker

Another cover I greatly admire and would like to get a copy of the book just so I can have this cover on my selves. I love it so much. I don’t think it’s scary, but I do find it a little unsettling… and beautiful. (Love it!!)

So, which covers spook you?

  2. I love Brom’s artwork and I really enjoyed the story he wrote in Krampus. It’s not nearly the horror that the cover would lead you to believe, though I do think that cover fits the character of Krampus. For me it was more of a slightly dark but touching story of Christmas, looking at some of the old mythos of the holiday.
