TBR book tags. I enjoy them. They remind me of books on my shelves I haven’t thought of in a while, making me want to read them. But then a don’t, and the process starts again the next time I do one of these tags.
That’s what’s happening for Day 4 of BOOK TAG WEEK!!
I’m doing the “Not Enough Time” Book Tag that was created by Sheri at Read Betwixt Words.
A book you keep saying you will read… but don’t
Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye
It’s been on my “Books I Really Want to Read” TBR every year for the past couple years — and I still haven’t read it yet. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve done away with that part of my yearly TBR for 2022. …But I still intend to read it. I’m still curious about it.
A book you keep saying you will read… but haven’t
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
This category is similar to the first, but I think there’s a slight distinction. Because despite saying every year that I’ll read Jane Steele but don’t do so, I keep saying I’ll read Legendborn but just haven’t done so… yet. It shall be done before the end of the year (fingers crossed).
A book you want to read… but don’t have yet
Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach
I forgot where I learned of this book… probably from NPR. Anyway, it sounds very interesting. It’s nonfiction about wild animals caught up in legal battles… I think. That’s how I explain it to myself.
A book that you haven’t seen reviewed… but sounds good
The Story of My Teeth by Valeria Luiselli, transl. by Christina Macsweeney
I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen a review of this book, but it certainly sounds good and quirky — that’s why I bought it.
A book that’s been on your TBR for years
The Women of Brewster Place by Gloria Naylor
This has been on my TBR since college days. It’s back then that I read and loved Naylor’s Linden Hills, about Black folks chasing the American Dream. It’s one of my favorite classics. I added Women of Brewster Place soon after completing Linden Hills but have yet to try it.
A book that intimidates you… but sounds amazing
The Iliad by Homer
I just think I’ll be super bored by it. I attempted it back in 2019 or 2020 or so, but the edition I tried (the one above) was too dry for me to get into. I intend to try again with a different translation.
A book that was recommended… but haven’t had a chance to read yet
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
In addition to the many rave reviews I’ve seen, one of my book club friends highly recommended it to me, and I am actually looking forward to reading it, hopefully this year. I have a feeling it’ll be one I love.
A book you’re not sure of… but will give a chance
Moon Witch, Spider King by Marlon James
It’s the second book in the Dark Star trilogy that begins with Black Leopard, Red Wolf, which started out as a struggle to read. However, after the first 100 or so pages, it was good. But struggling through that book has made me reluctant to try this one since I think it’s the same story but from a different POV, and I wasn’t so interested in any of the characters to be willing to go through the same story again from a different perspective. But, James is one of my fav authors and the world the story is set in is interesting, so…
A book you wouldn’t normally choose… but are curious about
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
SciFi isn’t my jam, but I’m curious about Project Hail Mary because of the reviews I’ve seen; however, I’m willing to give it a try. Plus, I read the author’s first book, The Martian, and liked it so it’s possible that I might like this too.
A book you’ve read… but need to finish the series
There Will Come a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool
It’s the first in a YA fantasy series that I started last year and am really enjoying (but I’ve been procrastinating on reviews, so I haven’t fully shared my thoughts on it yet). I look forward to continuing and completing the series this year.
A book you think you’ll love… but keep passing up
Mort by Terry Pratchett
I think this is delayed gratification for me. I have a strong feeling that I’ll love this book, but instead of starting on it, I’ve instead started on the Rincewind subseries while still have the Witches one ongoing. These books are part of Pratchett’s Discworld fantasy series.
Bonus: A book you’re really excited to read
DCeased: Dead Planet by Tom Taylor, illus. by Trevor Hairsine
Because zombies and superheroes. Can’t wait! 😀
Zezee’s Bonus: A book you keep saying you will read… but know you never will
(Lol, I couldn’t help adding my own bonus to the mix.)
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie
Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie
I’ve had them on my shelves for some time now, and I think it’s time that I admit to myself that I won’t read them.
Marlon James’ sequel is one that I want to read too but I fear that having forgotten the details of the first book would make the sequel even harder to approach… 😛

Probably, or maybe the story would come back to you since it’s supposed to be the same story from a different pov.

I thought Fuzz looked really interesting, too. I think I first saw it as a goodreads giveaway listing. I don’t have a copy yet, though, so no clue if/when I’ll read it.

I’d also like to get a copy although I doubt I’ll start it soon.

I want to read Fuzz too. It sounds interesting and possibly hilarious. I don’t own it and haven’t been able to find a cheap used copy. I have Project Hail Mary sitting on my TBR shelf. It was a gift, but sci-fi isn’t my thing, so I haven’t picked it up yet.

Lol, I think that would be me too if I owned Project Hail Mary. Maybe I’ll read it this year though by borrowing a copy.
And I bet Fuzz will be hilarious. 🙂

I’d strongly recommend Project Hail Mary. It’s a wonderful and exciting book that I think anyone will love

I’m drowning in books right now, my own and the library’s. There is not enough time! FWIW, Jane Steele was great!

I’m so tempted to visit the library but know I’ll end up taking more books than I can manage.
I’ll work my way to Jane Steele eventually.

A blog friend called the library “like retail therapy but free!” Ha ha!
