End of Year Book Tag | 2022

Here’s a tag that I should probably do around this time every year. It’s the End of Year Book Tag that was created by booktuber Ariel Bissett.

ARE THERE ANY BOOKS YOU STARTED THIS YEAR THAT YOU NEED TO FINISH?

As was the case with everything that was not my job this year, I’ve been horrendous at keeping track of my reading. I usually use Goodreads to track what I’m reading and have read, but I sometimes forgot to log what I started and when. However, I’m sure I have these to wrap up:

Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie

I’m buddy-reading this with Emily from Embuhleeliest and intend to complete it this year. It’s interesting but not as “enjoyable” as the three previous Abercrombie books I’ve read.

Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark

I should have completed this by now, but although I liked the two pages I read, I keep dragging my feet on it. I don’t know why I’m not more motivated. I’m reading it for a book club (we are all unmotivated for some reason) and intend to complete it by year end.

Page by Tamora Pierce

It’s the second book in the Protector of the Small series, which I am rereading. It’s another one I should have completed by now, but a bout of reading slump had hit when I started it. I’d like to complete it by year end.

Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan

I’ll be very surprised if I manage to complete this by year end (or early next year… or at all).

DO YOU HAVE AN AUTUMNAL BOOK TO TRANSITION INTO THE END OF THE YEAR?

Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett
Isle of Blood by Rick Yancey

It was supposed to be these two — Isle of Blood was for Halloween and Carpe Jugulum was intended for Christmas — but I might not get to either until the new year.

IS THERE A NEW RELEASE YOU’RE STILL WAITING FOR?

Night Angel Nemesis by Brent Weeks

The only new release I care about right now is this new installment in Brent Weeks’s Night Angel series, which I’m SO glad is being continued. It won’t be out until next year, and then I’ll still have to wait to get myself a copy because I don’t like hardcovers, the others I own are in mass market paperback, and U.S. publishers don’t push out mass market paperbacks for popular authors until a long time after the book’s been out.

WHAT ARE THREE BOOKS YOU WANT TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?

Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett
Beard in Mind by Penny Reid

The main three I have going. But if by some miracle I manage to get through them and still have time for something else, I’d like to get into Carpe Jugulum and another Winston Brothers book, most likely Beard in Mind, which is the fourth book in the series.

IS THERE A BOOK YOU THINK COULD STILL SHOCK YOU AND BECOME YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK OF THE YEAR?

Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark
Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie

From what I’ve heard of Ring Shout, it could become a favorite, but that wouldn’t shock me much. It would be shocking if Best Served Cold became a favorite since I’m not feeling it as much as I’d like and am not a fan of revenge stories.

HAVE YOU ALREADY STARTED MAKING READING PLANS FOR 2021?

Nope

This year was such a topsy-turvy one reading-wise that I intend to be very laidback when it comes to this hobby in the new year. For now, I don’t intend to make many plans, but that could change since my slumps seem to be finally receding for good.

Well, then, are you looking forward to doing year-end wrap ups as I am?

  1. A nice one to make you concentrate on finishing stuff and plans! I rather foolishly started a reading challenge for this month so my main focus appears to be trying to keep up with everyone’s reviews and adding them to my main post! Meanwhile, I’ve only read 2 out of the 10 I gave myself to read for it. Oops!

  2. I’ve not read any of these, though I certainly hope to get to Carpe Jugulum at some point. And I’d like to try Ring Shout. And perhaps one day I’ll get around to trying Jordan’s series (if I can finally get over the sheer length of it). I hope this next year is a better reading year for you!
