Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Shanah, the Bionic Book Worm, and now hosted by Meeghan at Meeghan Reads.
This week’s topic:
Top 5 books with fire
(We’re more into channeling Iroh than Ozai… but where are all our fire-benders at? 🔥☄️)
(Variant: lightning)
OK, this week’s topic was difficult to find answers for, but somehow I managed to find books that fit.
Olympians, Vol. 1: Zeus, King of the Gods by George O’Connor (illus.)
First up is this middle-grade fantasy comic book that’s the first in a series about the Greek gods. This first volume retells select stories about Zeus, focusing on the god in his younger years.
The Shadow Saint by Gareth Hanrahan
This one may be a stretch, but I think there was a lot of fire in the war that occurs at the end of the book… but I can’t remember for sure. The Shadow Saint is the second in the Black Iron Legacy fantasy series that’s set in a world were the gods are at war.
Klaus by Grant Morrison, illus. by Dan Mora
For this fantasy comic book, I remember for sure that there was fire in the battle that occurs toward the end. Klaus focuses on a sexy, bad-ass Santa Claus trying to reignite the Yuletime spirit in Grimsvig, a dismal town in the far north.
Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Another one with lightning that’s also based on Greek myths. This one is the first novel in a middle-grade fantasy series about children of Greek gods trying to survive and save the world by defeating monsters and fulfilling prophecies.
A Song of Ice & Fire by George R.R. Martin
Running out of what else to include, I went for something easy — GRRM’s popular series, which has dragons and characters who don’t mind fire.
This reminds me that I also need to continue on with the Percy Jackson books hahah Are you excited for the Disney reboot? 😀

Lol! I’m reminding you of many books 😀
I’m not, actually, because I didn’t like the first one at all, so I’m not confident in this new one. Also, I think I’d prefer if it was animated than live action.

Yep, all your tag posts end up reminding me of things I’ve never read or series I need to finish up hahahaha

I realized there was a lot more fire than I realized, so I structured my list differently https://jhohadli.wordpress.com/2023/05/17/top-five-books-with-fire

Fire bolts and lightning, very very frightening… I don’t know why i’ve had that in my head since seeing the prompt, but I have
SoIaF is pretty darn fiery. I kept meaning to work it in, then I had a different idea, and next thing you know I had five. Well, that and me thinking “Jaime is such a perfect choice for talking about Zuko except he flips back damn his hide”.

That’s a good point about Jaime. I think I stopped reading the books when he was still trying to be decent.
