Top Ten Tuesday #34: My Favorite Colors — Wishes for My TBR Pile #24

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but is now managed by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic:

Books With My Favorite Color On the Cover

Yea, I know I’m late with my TTT post, but I’ve been a bit lazy lately about drafting posts so this slipped from me. But I really wanted to do it because I love featuring my favorite colors. I thought I’d combine it with my Wishes for My TBR meme and feature instead:

Books in My Favorite Colors That I Want to Get

Wishes for My TBR Pile #23: More Books to Whet Your Appetite

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read. I refer to these lists whenever I visit a bookstore or library and can’t decide on what to get.

I’m so proud of myself, y’all! I managed to read one of the many books I’ve listed in these TBR posts. (Actually, I’ve managed to read a few listed in these posts, but I keep forgetting to mention them. Not anymore!) The book is The Black Tides of Heaven by J.Y. Yang. I included it in my January Wishes for My TBR Pile post and am glad I tried it. It was pretty good and was a quick read.

It’s a silkpunk fantasy novel about twins who’re trying to subvert the growing influence of their mother, who rules as Protector of their kingdom. One of the twins has prophetic powers that the Protector values and wants to use for her own means. However, the story follows Akeha, the twin who is often overlooked. I recommend the story to those who would like to try fantasy with some Asian influences and those who want to read fantasy that has gender diversity.

But back to the reason why I’m posting this. Here are books I’d like to add to my physical TBR:

Wishes for My TBR Pile #22: It’s back

Wow! It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these; not since last June, actually. That’s about half a year ago. I’ve since forgotten why I fell off with these posts, probably because I was busy for much of the second half of last year, but I’d like to start posting them again.

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read. I refer to these lists whenever I visit a bookstore and can’t decide on what to get. But since this year is about being disciplined, budgeting and buying less, I will use these lists to guide what I borrow from the library.

Just to be clear, I haven’t read any of the books on this list. Also, the majority of them are old books, meaning they weren’t published in 2018 and probably not in 2017 either. If I made note of where I first heard of the book, I’ll include a link to the source, so you can check out the review (it’s usually a review) or mention.

Wishes for My TBR Pile #21: It’s Been a Long Time Coming

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read.

I refer to these lists whenever I visit a bookstore and can’t decide on what to get. However, recently my go-to list for books to get has been my Tough Travels posts. I’ve discovered several new-to-me books since partaking of that meme and reading about fantasy books on the blogs I visit.

However, since my last Wishes for My TBR post, I was moved to get Binti by Nnedi Okorafor, which, of course, I haven’t yet read but plan to. Here are a some more books I’d like to get and read:

Wishes for My TBR Pile #20: More New Discoveries

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read.

These lists come in handy when I’m at the bookstore and can’t decide on what to purchase (though I really don’t need to buy any more books). I often get one or two of the books after featuring them in these lists because discussing them here helps to refresh my memory and interest in them.

And since my last post, I bought Klaus by Grant Morrison, illus. by Dan Mora. Actually, I placed an order for it soon after completing that post. Klaus is a comic book that reimagines the tale of Santa Clause. The art looks pretty cool and I love the book’s overall presentation: It’s a hardback with gold-leaf edges. It’s so beautiful. I hope to read it sometime this year.

Here are some more books I’ve discovered:

Wishes for My TBR Pile #19: Why the Odd Name?

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read.

I usually publish these posts at the end of every month, but I got off track last year. Though I didn’t publish one in January, I plan to upload a Wishes for My TBR Pile post every month going forward.

I just realize how odd the title of these posts is: Wishes for My TBR Pile. I have several TBRs. The largest is my to-read list on Goodreads, where I add every book I have a slight interest in reading. Every now and then, I weed out the ones I’m no longer curious about or would like to read. I count the unread books on my bookshelves as my TBR pile, which is what these posts refer to. The books I list here are books I’d really like to purchase and set on my shelves and probably read. Lol!

I’m just being honest. I often buy books I’m excited about and forget to read them. Lately, I’ve started visiting the library, which is helpful in making me read books I’m interested in. After all, if I borrow a book and return it to the library unread, I will be angry with myself for wasting my own time, though no money was spent. Ironically, this doesn’t happen with books I’ve bought and left languishing on my shelves unread for years.

Anyway, here are the books I added to my Goodreads TBR list and wish to add to my TBR pile, since my last post:

Wishes for My TBR #18: Just in Time for Christmas

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read.

I’ve discovered so many new to me books since I last did one of these posts that I procrastinated in doing this one. Also, I wasn’t in much of a blogging mood during the past couple weeks. But I’ve got my blogging groove back and since Christmas is mere days away, I thought it best to throw this post up in case someone needs gift ideas or is bored and need to past time while waiting for Christmas.

Wishes for My TBR Pile #17: All the Books

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get and read.

Again I’m late on posting this. I usually do these once per month, but I forgot to post in July and since my last entry in this series, I’ve added many books to my Goodreads TBR. I use both that TBR and these posts when looking for a new book to purchase or rent from the library. I don’t mind browsing bookstores and libraries and selecting a book by chance, simply because the cover caught my attention, but at times when I’m indecisive, these Wishes for My TBR Pile lists come in handy. Same too my Goodreads TBR, but sometimes the app is a nuisance when I’m trying to see the books I recently added.

I hope you’ll find something new to add to your TBR. Here are the books:

Wishes for My TBR Pile #16: It’s Been a While

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get.

Because of my spotty blogging back in May, I haven’t had a chance to do one of these posts. I believe the last one I did was in April. Well, here I am with a long one to make up for lost time. The following are books I discovered in the past few months that I’d really like to get but probably won’t until I get a Barnes & Noble coupon. By the way, I’m convinced that the mailman is taking my coupons. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten one and I’m sure he thinks I order too many books so he’s depriving me of coupons. Meanie mailman!

Wishes for My TBR Pile #15: (I Don’t Know What to Place Here)

Wishes for My TBR Pile is a monthly post where I list and sometimes discuss the books I’ve discovered and would like to get.

I’ve decided to format this a little differently this time. Usually, I would include the summary of the book from Goodreads but I’ll leave it out from now on because it makes these posts quite long. However, I will continue to include the link to Goodreads so you can find out more if interested. The link to Goodreads is on the titles.

At the Existentialist Cafe

At the Existentialist Café: Freedom, Being, and Apricot Cocktails with Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Albert Camus, Martin Heidegger, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Others by Sarah Bakewell

A recent release, Bakewell’s book is about the history of existentialism. I first heard of it on Books, the Universe, and Everything, where Emily wrote a great review on it. I don’t know much about existentialism, but I’m curious and this sounds like it will be a good read.
