Let’s Rewind: August 2021

Hmm… I wonder if last year’s August was as good as this one for me… probably not.

Let’s Rewind is a monthly wrap up but instead of talking about only books, I include all types of other stuff, like articles… bookish news… commercials… random-ass links… movies… art… podcasts… cartoons… and whatever else happened to me in the month. You know, the usual stuff that people talk about in monthly wrap ups. So read on to see what I did and read this month. You might stumble upon something that interests you.

August was such a rejuvenating month for me. What can I say? I had fun and I enjoyed it. I mean, yea, I had some really low moments and even a health scare, but it ended on a high note and the health scare turned out to be an unnecessary worry, so great month! 😀

Let’s Rewind: August 2020

I can’t believe I spent so much of the year working from home. It’s something I’ve wanted to do, but not under these circumstances.

Let’s Rewind is my version of a monthly wrap up but instead of talking about only books, I include all types of other stuff, like articles… bookish news… commercials… random-ass links… movies… art… podcasts… cartoons… and whatever else happened to me in the month. You know, the usual stuff that people talk about in monthly wrap ups. So read on to see what I did and read this month. You might stumble upon something that interests you.

August… It was a bit like July. I don’t remember much of it to the point where I’m wondering if I should try again to maintain a journal, maybe a weekly journal; but I wonder what would I write in it.

Let’s Rewind: August 2019

August was a great month. I relaxed, I enjoyed time with friends, I participated in a fun readathon, I worked my ass off at my jobs, and… I was exhausted by the end of it hence the tardiness of this post.

August got off on a great start in my personal life. A friend, who’s also a bibliophile, and I decided to take a Reading Retreat at a seaside town in Maryland. It was wonderful. (And, as we were planning this trip, we realized that Reading Retreats are becoming more popular. We found various posts on the internet about ideal spots for Reading Retreats.) The plan was to go away for the weekend and read a book or two. But instead, we read only a page or two, lol! 😀

What’s on Your Nightstand: August 2018

What’s on Your Nightstand is a monthly meme hosted by 5 Minutes for Books on the last Tuesday of every month that summarizes what you’ve read for the month, what you’re currently reading, and what you plan to read next. For my posts, I also include articles, music, art, TV shows, and whatever else I did in the month.

Things started to take a turn for the better in August after a stressful July. I won a copy of Stay With Me by Ayòbámi Adébáyò in an IG giveaway that I was happy for and that set my month on a positive tone. I went to my first baseball game this month and was super excited about it though I didn’t understand shit about what was happening. The only thing I know is home run and that didn’t happen until after I left the game 😦 . But I’m glad to have participated in this quintessential American experience of attending a ball game and eating a hotdog there.

I also attended the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C., but it wasn’t as great as I expected. I was glad to see Roxane Gay speak, though I haven’t read any of her books yet; and I really enjoyed Leigh Bardugo’s session. She was very funny and made me want to immediately start reading her books (I’ve only read Shadow & Bone so far). I wanted to stick around to see Celeste Ng, but I was hungry and disappointed with the festival, so I left.

Reading-wise, it was a good month. I read six books, which I think shows how stressed I still was from July. I didn’t want to deal with the world, so I dunked my head in books to avoid it. I didn’t read as many articles as I wanted to though, but I’m slowly getting back into them. It’s been a weird summer overall and I hope that my year will get better and end on a positive note. So, reading is good but life is…unpredictable as always.

What’s On Your Nightstand: August 2017

What’s on Your Nightstand is a monthly meme hosted by 5 Minutes for Books on the last Tuesday of every month that summarizes what you’ve read for the month, what you’re currently reading, and what you plan to read next. For my posts, I also include articles, music, art, TV shows, and whatever else I did in the month.

August was good to me 🙂 . I got so much reading done in August because of the 3 readathons I was participating in: Tome Topple, the Reading Quest, and Bout of Books. Not only did I read loads of books, I also consumed lots of articles. But that’s because I was bored at work and thought it best to use my lack of nothing to do to get through the many newsletters I’m subscribed to. I discovered some great articles in them.

Because of all the reading done in August and because I have lots to highlight in the things I read, this will be a very long post. I don’t expect anyone to read everything here, but I urge you all to check out the Articles and Podcasts sections below because there are some great thought-pieces listed in them.

What’s On Your Nightstand: August 2016

What's On Your NightstandWhat’s on Your Nightstand is a monthly meme hosted by 5 Minutes for Books that summarizes what you’ve read for the month, what you’re currently reading, and what you plan to read next. It’s basically a wrap-up, though not as detailed, depending on how you structure your reading wrap-ups. The meme is held the last Tuesday of every month.

I haven’t done one of these wrap-ups since June because life has been busy and I forgot. In this post, I will briefly talk about books I read since that June post and I’ll also do a wrap-up for the Bout of Books readathon and an update on my progress for the Pokemon Indigo League #ReadThemAllThon. I won’t mention articles I read or podcasts I listened to because I hardly read any articles and didn’t keep track of the ones I read. As for podcasts, I listened to a lot of them but didn’t keep track either.
