Comics Roundup #5: Saga continues and a mechanical lady

Getting into comics last year was one of the best things I did. I love story and I love art, therefore I love this medium. The comics I’ve since read are interesting, profound, and fun. They mirror my taste in fantasy books but are sometimes grittier. Since reading my first four, my interest in the medium grew until I found myself seeking more and more recommendations of what to read next. I decided to try mangas too and have indulged in my old love of illustrated books. Basically, I’m one happy booknerd for having discovered comics.

Skyrim Book Tag

I’ve never before played Skyrim but Ariana, the Quirky Book Nerd, tagged me in this book tag that she created (Thanks Ari!) so I googled Skyrim and I must say, it looks pretty cool. That dude with the horned helmet looks vicious!

Well, here goes the tag.

Fus Ro Dah – A book that blew you away.

A Game of Thrones

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. This one impressed me the first and second times I read it. It’s understandable for the first read since I didn’t know what to expect then, but the second time through was just as great and engrossing as the first.

Comics Roundup #4: A Blast Into the Past

I read four graphic novels when I participated in Bout of Books 14. To read my thoughts on the first two comics I read, click here. What follows are my thoughts on Rat Queens and Saga. I’m so hooked on these series, that I had to include the second volume of both when choosing books for the readathon. My thoughts in this post will be short since it’s on the second volumes and I don’t want to give away too much. (Plus, I don’t have much to say other than they’re both great comics. Go read them!)

Bout of Books 14: Update 5

Yesterday was Day 5 of Bout of Books 14 but I was too tired to post anything. It was much better than Day 4. I read. The day was good. The sun was shinning, and I was smiling a bit more; though that was probably because I went for a run in the morning. Working out really does make you feel better. Yeah for endorphins. Anyways, the books.

Friday, Day 5 progress

Comics Roundup #1: four bad-ass chicks, a couple on the run, wicked kids, and gods having fun

This year I decided to get into comics and anime. I’ve always been intrigued by them but for some weird reason, I’ve never immersed myself in the culture or even sampled bits of it. Prior to early May when I bought these comics, the only comics I’d ever read were Archie and Sabrina when I was a little kid. As for graphic novels, there were Maus I and Maus II (both of which I hope to collect soon) and The Rime of the Modern Mariner, a modern retelling of the famous poem, which I read a few years ago and enjoyed.

So with plans to read more comics, I sidled into Fantom Comics, a comic bookshop in Dupont Circle, to look around. The sellers were friendly and quickly shared recommendations of what I should get. Even the customers were eager to offer some input. I’m not interested in the superhero comics so I ended up getting these. Upon cashing out, I learned a harsh truth—comics are FRIGGIN expensive!
