Weekend Reads #107: Anger

You ever feel so angry and frustrated that it’s as if the emotions are choking you? That’s how I feel. Angry, frustrated, exhausted, and powerless.

Since the beginning of this year, I’ve tried to stay on top of news and politics, but the more updates I consume, the more angry and frustrated I get. I mean… yo! Jacob Blake was shot 7 TIMES!! in his back. By the police. In front of his kids! While walking toward his SUV after trying to break up a fight. What??!!

And a White kid was going around the same area (Kenosha, Wis.) toting a big-ass gun and shooting protesters; he was able to walk by the police with his gun and go home WITHOUT getting shot by the police… or stopped by them. Apparently, he got a bottle of water from them.

This is fucking crazy world. A crazy country.

I won’t even mention what’s going on in politics regarding the antics and some of the shit said at the RNC. I just…

UGH!!!

Handwriting Challenge

I enjoy writing by hand because I admire my own handwriting, so this tag was perfect for me. I was tagged for it last year by Sara Letourneau and though I’ve considered doing it many times since then, it’s only now that I’ve found the time to sit and write out the answers.

The answers aren’t long, but these days I don’t write by hand as much as I used to. It’s much quicker to type something and either send or print it. I write notes by hand and other short trivial things that quickly come to mind, but otherwise everything is typed, especially if it’s something long. My thoughts race when I’m writing — whether a blog post, or story, or letter, — so it’s best that I type so I can keep up with them. My hands also grow tired less quickly when I type than write if what I’m working on something long.

But I still enjoy writing by hand and will sometimes recopy notes I initially typed by hand (which, I guess, is working backwards) so I can admire my handwriting while committing the notes to memory. I remember things better when I write instead of type them, and I see handwriting as a work of art. So yea, I was quite vain while doing this post. I admired myself while writing out my answers and even liked my attempts to cover up the mistakes I made.

Weekend Reads #72: Busy and Tired

Weekend Reads is a weekly post in which I discuss a variety of topics and mention the books I plan to read on the weekend.

This post was inspired by Sara Letourneau’s recent Thursday Thoughtfulness post, which asked:

What are your favorite ways of “recharging your batteries”? Do you think that rest, relaxation, and other forms of mindfulness are important parts of everyday life? Why or why not?

Good timing, Sara. This was exactly what I intended to talk about.

My blogging — posting and interacting with other bloggers — have been spotty lately because I’ve been busy and by the time I sit down to write, I’m either tired or not in the mood. Often, this means that I need to recharge. It means that I’m overtaxed in some way, either working too much at my job or socializing too much in my life, which is fun but leaves me drained afterward.

Weekend Reads #54: I’ve been gone for a minute

Weekend Reads is a weekly discussion on a variety of topics. At the end of the post, I’ll include what I plan to read on the weekend.

Again, no discussion this weekend. This post is more an update just to say I’m back after a little break. I haven’t posted anything all week because work and life has been crazy busy but hopefully I’ll have time to catch up on my reviews and posts and reading.

I can’t believe it’s already August, actually. In my reality, summer began a few days ago. Then I blinked and now it’s almost over. I was so consumed by work and other things that I didn’t notice my favorite season passing by and didn’t get to enjoy much of it either. Not that I could to the extent I wanted to since this summer is one of the hottest in my existence. The heat and humidity has been oppressive.

But I plan to change my ways in the following weeks. I plan to catch up on blogging and reading things and pay attention to stuff outside, like watching the birds and the bees and the butterflies. As luck would have it, Lappy 2.0, my new laptop I got last year, has chosen to start fucking up these past few weeks, which pisses me off. So let’s hope it holds out for the rest of the week and doesn’t get all dramatic and decide to pass out on me.

Weekend Reads #53: Booktube Bites

Weekend Reads is a weekly discussion on a variety of topics. At the end of the post, I’ll include what I plan to read on the weekend.

This weekend I’m doing something a little different. I’m borrowing a feature from Rachel’s blog, Life of a Female Bibliophile, called Booktube Bites, a weekly post in which she features bookish videos she finds on the internet. Her most recent Booktube Bites post features a video by Winx & Ink (a booktuber I enjoy listening to) about reading as a form of self care.

The video I’m featuring in this post isn’t book related, but it is a story and as book lovers, one of the many things we love about books, and for many us is the main thing we love about books, is the story within them. I enjoyed listening to this one and watching the graphics and thought it best to share it with you all. Enjoy! 🙂

Taunting Thursday

Here I am with a Taunting Thursday post. In other words, a random-ass post. But taunting is a perfect description for Thursday because Thursday hints at Friday, which is almost here, and we are all happily anticipating the arrival of Friday because that means WEEKEND!!! Unless, of course, you work in retail and have to work on Saturday in which case you’re dreading Friday because everyone who doesn’t work on Saturdays shops on Saturdays and are a nag on Saturdays especially in the morning.

That’s what Thursdays make me think about.

It’s such a nag, Thursdays. Work takes longer, your boss finds obscure things for you to do, the heel of the shoe you’ve been wearing all week breaks, and once you start to think you’ve got a little reprieve from the bone-wearying week, you remember that one errand you had to run on Monday but forgot to and has now escalated into something more tedious.

Sharing My Instagram Pics: Random Pic of Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. (Zezee's Pics)
Washington, D.C. (Zezee’s Pics)

I’m looking forward to touring cities now that the weather is swinging to the temperatures that I like. I love walking around cities and taking pictures of buildings and whatever else that catches my eye…when it’s warm outside. The picture above was taken last year in Washington, D.C. I was newly introduced to Instagram and was playing with its features on my phone. I love this pic. It dazzles my eyes.
