Mini Magical Readathon | 2022 — Prep for Orilium

The Magical Readathon continues!

If you’re not familiar with this readathon, here’s a quick rundown —

It was created by G, a booktuber who runs Book Roast. It was initially inspired by the Harry Potter books, but she switched it up by creating her own world as the basis for the readathon.

The first part of the revamped version took place in fall 2021, where participants journeyed to Orilium Academy, the magic school in G’s fantastical world. The reading prompts were based on the things we encountered on the journey to Orilium Academy. Once completed, we took a quick quiz to determine what guild we’ll join at the academy.

Now G is hosting a Mini Magical Readathon to help us get ready to begin our studies at Orilium Academy in April. It’s a short readathon, taking place March 14-20, with even shorter requirements (just two, actually). All you have to do for this readathon is choose a conduit and a guild legacy for your character.

There’s a reading prompt for each of the various conduits and guild legacies, but I’ll only list below the ones I’ve chosen for my characters. I got overexcited last year and created two characters for the readathon — the party lover, ZeZee (because I couldn’t be bothered to think of another name), and her introverted pal, Silverin.

Spooktastic Reads TBR | 2021

Spooktastic Reads is back! 😀

Spooktastic Reads is a mini-event hosted by the Wyrd & Wonder crew — Imyril, Lisa, and Jorie — over the 13 days leading up to Halloween, so October 19 – 31. (For more info, check out Imyril’s post.)

Spooktastic Reads is a laid-back event, so there’s no need to make a TBR or to even read books for it. You participate in whatever way you like, which I’m grateful for because this is always a busy time of year for me.

I tend to always make a TBR and never read anything from it, so this time I shall instead list books I’ve already started and need to read. There’s nothing scary on it (well, one of them may be, but I doubt it). These books just give me fall vibes.

Magical Readathon | 2021 — The Novice Path Wrap-Up

My journey along the Novice Path was a success! 😀 But it wasn’t without obstacles. Let’s see how I did on the journey.

Quick Note

The Magical Readathon is a monthlong readathon created by G, a booktuber, that was once inspired by the Harry Potter books. G updated the readathon by creating her own world and lore for it. The Novice Path is the first part of the readathon. For more details, check my first post about the readathon.

G provided a map for the Novice Path that has landmarks along it where characters face decisions that determine which guild at Orilium Academy their character will enter. I’ve included my choices and guild results in the review of my progress along the Novice Path below.

Looking Back on My Novice Path Journey

My journey along the Novice Path got off on a rocky start. I rushed to cobble together my TBR because I didn’t realize the readathon was soon to start and was hoping to read for it books that I was already intending to start in October, which sort of worked for me but kinda didn’t.

The Magical Readathon is back everyone!

The readathon was initially inspired by the Harry Potter books, but the creator — G, a booktuber who runs Book Roast — has moved away from them due to comments J.K. Rowling made regarding the trans community. But now the readathon is back and better than ever because G created her own world and magic systems for the readathon.

Some Background

The readathon is now based on a planet called Aeldia that contains 4 continents — Irtheria, Darkmeadow, Kerador, and Daerune — that are populated by humans, elves, earthlings, iltrians, skaimorns, and dwarves, as well as demons and dragons and other creatures. When sorcerers reach a certain age, they are compelled to journey to Orilium Academy to further their studies, a journey called the Novice Path.

For this part of the readathon, we will all follow the Novice Path to Orilium Academy.

The Novice Path

The readathon begins with the Novice Path, a monthlong readathon where participants must complete at least 2 prompts by midnight on September 30 to succeed. Only one book may be used for each prompt. Next year, we will move on to the next part of the readathon where we begin our studies at Orilium Academy.

Wyrd & Wonder Wrap-Up & Bingo | 2021

Wyrd & Wonder this year was a surprising success for me. I read more than I expected and, although I didn’t post as much as I expected, I did pretty well considering how unprepared I was.

W&W Plans

I hit all my W&W goals:

✓ Read mostly fantasy.

— Apart from a thriller novel I completed early in May, all my reads were intended to be fantasy reads, although there was one that leans more into horror and another that I didn’t realize was religion but I count it anyway since I picked it up intending to read it for W&W.

✓ Publish mostly fantasy-related posts.

— Apart from a review or two that weren’t for fantasy novels, I’ve managed to pull off posting 95% fantasy-related posts.

✓ Do the W&W challenges.

— I’m so happy I found a way to do this that works for me. I sometimes did the challenges on Instagram, but I knew there would be times that I wouldn’t be able to keep up. Wyrd & Wonder Wednesdays helped me to resolve this; I made the challenge into mini tags. 😊

✓ Host a giveaway.

— I managed to do this as well! And I’m so happy so many folks signed up for it. I will reach out to the winner this week. (The winner will have up to 2 days to respond before I choose someone else. I will announce the winner on here on June 7.)

Wyrd & Wonder Is Coming | Here’s My TBR

Wyrd & Wonder is possibly my favorite reading event in the year. I’m SO excited to be participating in it again this year, and hopefully this time I’ll really put a dent in my physical fantasy TBR.

What is Wyrd & Wonder?

It’s a relaxed monthlong celebration in May of all things fantasy that’s hosted by the Wyrd & Wonder crew: Imyril, Lisa, and Jorie.

There is no deadline for signing up; however, if you do so and make a post before May 7, you’ll be entered into a giveaway. Participants can participate in any way they choose: read only fantasy books or only fantasy comics, watch fantasy shows, post about fantasy-related stuff, play only fantasy games… whatever you like. However you choose to participate is totally up to you, and you can include links to your post in the master schedule or just check it out to see what others plan to post.

NEWTS Magical Readathon | 2020 TBR

Here we are barreling into August with the coronavirus still hot on our tail. If you’re like me, you’re tired and depressed by the negative news cycle that seems to become more bleak each day. The Magical Readathon is one of the most fun reading events I participate in each year, so I was especially looking forward to doing the NEWTs this August.

However, this will be the end of the Magical Readathon — or, at least, the end of the readathon while it’s heavily influenced by the Harry Potter books. The host, booktuber Book Roast, has decided to discontinue the readathon for now due to negative comments J.K. Rowling made concerning the transgender community. She plans to relaunch the readathon using her own ideas instead of Harry Potter as the inspiration. The NEWTs that will be held this August will be the last of its kind, and there are a few minor changes in how it will run; so check out Book Roast’s video for more details and for the NEWTs prompts.

Here are a few facts about the readathon, if you’re new to it and would like to participate.

• The Magical Readathon is based on the exams in the Harry Potter books.
• The first part of the readathon is called the OWLs. It took place April 1-30.
  • However, you can do your OWLs now and the NEWTs later, if you like… something like that. Visit the readathon’s website for those details.
• The second part of the readathon is called the NEWTs. It will take place August 1-31.
  • However, since this is the last iteration of this event, Book Roast has altered the rules so that you can do the readathon whenever you like and for as long as you like.
• You get to choose a wizarding career to pursue and this year extra training was introduced, which you can also partake in.

Wrap Up: OWLs Magical Readathon | 2020

Y’all, this never happens to me: I finished a readathon early!! 😀

The OWLs Magical Readathon was a huge success for me this year. Because I couldn’t decide what career to pursue, I decided to do all the prompts for the challenge, and I completed them all! 😀 Now I can pursue whatever career I like for the NEWTs.

Weekend Reads #100: Week 4 — OWLs 2020 Progress Report

Weekend Reads is a weekly post I haven’t done much of in a very long time, but I’m jumping back into it this month to share my reading progress for the OWLs Magical Readathon, which is taking place this entire month.

I read SO much this week, I’m quite surprised at myself. I managed to complete all my OWLs except for Herbology, which I’m working on now.
